A Florida family is shocked to find replacing their electric car battery costs more than the vehicle’s original price.
The Siwinski family bought a 2014 Ford Focus Electric for $11,000 as a first car for their daughter, Avert.
While Avery was excited about new car, things took a tuirn when the vehicle began having issues just six months after purchase.
Initial excitement turned to frustration as the car battery costs soared.
Avery had been thrilled with her electric car. She loved how quiet and compact it was, making it easy to drive.
However, her joy quickly faded when the car suddenly stopped working.
Concerned, the family took the car to a mechanic, where they discovered that the battery had failed.
Under normal circumstances, a battery replacement might not be too problematic.
However, the situation was complicated by the fact that Ford had discontinued this particular model, which meant they also stopped producing replacement batteries.
This left the family with limited options.

Avery expressed her frustration, stating, “It’s frustrating that they stopped making the battery too, so it left hundreds of people without a car to use.”
Avery’s grandfather, Ray, stepped in to help with the situation.
He shared that the Ford dealership informed them that this issue is common among owners of the Ford Focus Electric.
He noted, “It turns out this is a pretty common problem with this particular car. The Ford dealership advised us that we could replace the battery, it would only cost $14,000.”

“If you’re buying a new one, you have to realise there is no second hand market out there because manufacturers aren’t supporting the cars,” he explained.
