A family was left stunned after builders completed construction but delivered only half a house, turning their dream home into a nightmare.

A family in Australia was left stunned when builders handed them a house that was only half finished.

Bishnu Aryal and his family had high hopes for their new home after moving from Nepal to Sydney.

They had paid a large sum for the construction, but what they received was not what they expected.

Bishnu Aryal invested in his dream home.

Bishnu Aryal wanted to start a new life in Australia. He paid AU $700,000 to build a house in Edmonson Park.

After three years of waiting, he hoped to see his vision come to life.

However, when he arrived at the site, he found that the building was not a complete house. Instead, it looked like a duplex, with one side flat and windowless.

Aryal shared his feelings about the situation. He felt embarrassed to see the result after waiting so long.

He had imagined a free-standing home for his family, but what he got was far from that.

“It’s not a free-standing house, it’s not a duplex, it’s half a house. And it looks embarrassing,” he said.

The issue arose from a miscommunication about the design of the house.

Aryal, who is not a native English speaker, was confused about the plans.

He had been told that the house would be ready in one year, but three years passed with little progress.  When he saw the building, it was not what he envisioned.

“They were promising us the house will be ready in one year time, but we wait for three long years. When we come to see the progress of the building, we see our building was different to what we were expecting,” the dad claimed.

Aryal expressed his shock when he learned that the house was now considered a duplex.

He had not signed up for that type of home. Upon calling the supervisor, he was told it was a “semi duplex,” which left him feeling lost and frustrated.

He believed he was promised a complete house, but instead received half a structure.

Financial strain affected the family’s living situation.

The situation worsened for the Aryal family during the COVID-19 pandemic. They had to move into the unfinished house while his wife was pregnant.

Bishnu struggled with work and felt added pressure due to the lack of a proper living situation.

To make matters worse, they did not have an occupation certificate for the house, which caused further complications.

“It’s a mess. We know that. Even though this situation hasn’t been caused by us, we are doing what we can to ensure that the right thing is done by Mr Aryal and his family,” it added.

Builders insisted their communication was clear throughout.

Zac Homes, the construction company, stated that Aryal was made aware of the changes to the design.

They claimed that he had multiple opportunities to withdraw from the project if he disagreed with the plans.

However, Aryal felt he had trusted the process and did not receive proper notice of the changes.

“When bank asked, I called them and said can you please send the plan and I forward the plan to the bank. I didn’t look,” he explained.

The builders mentioned that they were trying to resolve the situation.

They acknowledged the frustration of the Aryal family and stated that they were working to ensure the right thing was done.

Zac Homes even waived some fees to help alleviate the family’s stress.

A Lesson Learned About Communication

This experience serves as a reminder of the importance of clear communication in construction projects.

Misunderstandings can lead to significant issues, as seen in this case.

Bishnu Aryal learned the hard way that it is crucial to understand every detail of a building contract.

As the Aryal family navigates this challenging situation, they hope to find a resolution soon. They want to create a safe and comfortable home for their family.

While the experience has been difficult, they remain hopeful that the builders will fulfill their obligations and complete the house as originally intended.
