The family that purchased a house located in the middle of the M62 motorway spoke about their bizarre situation.

Stott Hall Farm is an unusual residence located between the lanes of the M62 motorway.

The farmhouse, built in the 18th century, has endured changes in its surroundings as the motorway was constructed around it.

A farm in the middle of a M62 Motorway

If you’ve ever driven along the M62, you may have noticed Stott Hall Farm.

It looks like a quaint farmhouse perched between the carriageways.

However, this isn’t an artistic service station. The farmhouse was built long before the motorway existed.

When construction of the M62 began, workers discovered a geological fault beneath the farmhouse.

Additionally, this finding prevented the road from being built directly over the property.

Instead, the motorway was designed to go around Stott Hall Farm.

They shared their experiences living in such a peculiar location in the Channel 4 documentary, “The Pennines: The Backbone of Britain”.

While, Paul described their daily life, saying, “It’s just like any other farm really. You’ve got to know your land, know your job, and plan around it.”

He acknowledged the challenges they face. He noticed: “The only thing is, we’ve got six lanes of traffic through ours. It throws up its challenges; it’s very unique.”

One significant challenge of living near a busy motorway is managing livestock.

Paul explained that sheep wandering onto the road is a recurring issue.

He noted, “I can’t tell you the number of times it’s happened. My phone will go at 2:00 AM, and it’s somebody from the highways agency.”

Paul often receives calls alerting him to sheep that have escaped.

These situations pose serious risks for the animals and motorists alike.

Despite the constant noise from traffic, life inside Stott Hall Farm remains peaceful.

Michael Clegg commented in a British Film Institute documentary that the outside noise is “relentless.”

However, he added that inside, it feels “as peaceful and cozy as any farmhouse.”

Additionally, living at Stott Hall Farm offers a unique perspective on rural life amid a bustling motorway.

While challenges like traffic noise and roaming sheep exist, the family continues to embrace their unconventional lifestyle.
