Father-of-four with an MBA is facing difficulty finding a job. Despite sending out more than 1,500 applications, he has had no success.
Marcial Quinones, a 48-year-old father-of-four with an MBA, has endured over a decade of job search difficulties.
He is facing significant challenges in securing stable employment despite having submitted over 1,500 job applications.
With an MBA and extensive experience in the technology sector, he has not been able to land a full-time job since 2010.
The father-of-four once successes in the tech industry but still struggles to find a job
Marcial fondly recalls a time when he could easily find work in the tech industry without even a high school diploma.
In the 1990s, he worked for a major tech company with minimal obstacles.
However, those days are long gone.
Now, he finds it incredibly challenging to locate a position that matches his expertise.
According to Marcial, the job market has changed dramatically.
The process of job searching seems to be dominated by technology and artificial intelligence, which diminishes human interaction.
He has made numerous efforts to seek opportunities, from posting job inquiries on social media to walking into local businesses.
Unfortunately, these endeavors often result in rejection.
The father attempted to do various jobs and faced many challenges
Despite the challenges, Marcial refuses to give up. He has explored various part-time jobs, including driving for Uber and printing merchandise.
He even created an inventory management software program that he has sold to several clients.
However, this has not provided a stable income stream.
The issue is not merely about finding a job.
Marcial has also realized that gaps in his resume might be holding him back.
Since losing his job in 2010 due to a difficult family situation, he has struggled to find steady work in his field.
He has revamped his resume numerous times, even spending $300 on a professional overhaul, but still receives no interview invites.
Interestingly, when Marcial changed his name on his resume from Marcial to Tony, he noticed an increase in interview requests.
This led him to consider that race may also be a factor affecting his job search.
Living in rural Pennsylvania, far from major cities, adds to the difficulty of finding remote work.
Marcial is aware that his skill set may be outdated compared to what many companies are seeking today.
He acknowledges that being unemployed for an extended period creates a significant barrier to securing a position.
‘I wish there was an easier way, but traditional ways of looking for employment have been overshadowed by artificial intelligence and lack of human interaction,’ he said.
