Flight attendant explains the reason why only 'idiots' stand up at the end of flights

Wednesday, 19/07/2023, 15:23 (GMT+7)

The flight attendant stated that if you're the type of person who stands up before your flight has landed, you're an idiot.

A flight attendant with nearly a decade of experience revealed that some passengers believe they can gain an advantage by standing up and waiting in the aisle before they are allowed to disembark. However, the truth is, if you're the kind of person who stands up before the plane doors open after landing, you're an idiot.

According to The Sun website, the flight attendant, who has no public identity, reveals why passengers should stay seated rather than stand up at the end of the plane, causing disruptions and potential issues

She said, "I'm going to explain exactly why you should sit down and just be patient instead of standing up and causing problems for everyone else."

According to her, passengers are more prone to injuries while the plane is on the ground than during the flight. The majority of these incidents occur because people don't have their seatbelts securely fastened and do not remain in their seats.

She said: "In fact, more injuries happen to passengers when the plane is on the ground than when it's in the air, and a lot of the time it's because they aren't in their seat, with their seatbelt on, as they ought to be.".

According to experts, passengers wearing seat belts on the plane help to secure the body in the seat and minimize injuries when the plane experiences bumps, collisions, or sudden drops.

When boarding the plane, passengers will be instructed by flight attendants and asked to fasten their seat belts during the flight. Even when landing on the runway, passengers are often told to stay in their seats and buckle up until the plane comes to a complete stop and the seat belt lights go out.

In addition, experts also emphasized that when the aircraft lands and taxis on the runway, incidents such as fuel leaks or the risk of fire from the aircraft tires may occur. Therefore, getting up or moving around during this time can affect the flight and even jeopardize the safety of the passengers.

Passengers are advised to remain seated and fasten their seat belts until instructed by the flight attendants to deplane and retrieve their luggage.

The flight attendant refutes the idea that getting up like this will make them get off the plane faster.

"You won't get anywhere faster. It's better that you sit in your seat until the plane reaches the terminal, and only then start thinking about how you collect your bags and other belongings and prepare for departure. Even then, you should leave calmly, pass row by row, and exit the plane one by one. This is an orderly and efficient process, which also prevents people from pushing each other."

She also suggests that if passengers truly still want to exit the plane at the highest speed, they should choose a seat at the front on the left side, as that's the side from which most people exit. In the case of smaller planes, there are exits at the back, and passengers should be prepared for that

She continued: "You'll have to do a little research before the flight to know which model of plane you'll be flying, and that way you'll be able to get out among the first. But in any case, it's so insignificant - all in all, you'll gain a few seconds and look like idiots rushing to get out before everyone else. And we'll meet you in the passport line and next to the baggage conveyor belt in the terminal."
