Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth has been in the news lately, as he talks about the idea of retiring from Hollywood.
This decision comes after he discovered that he has a higher chance of developing Alzheimer's disease due to his genes.
Hemsworth shared this information during an episode of his show called "Limitless."
Chris Hemsworth speaks out about 'retiring from Hollywood' after Alzheimer's discovery
In an episode of his Discovery+ series called Limitless, Hemsworth delved into the topic of living a longer and healthier life.
During the episode, his brain was analyzed, revealing that he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene, which has been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's.
Although this news initially led to speculation that Hemsworth would retire from the film industry, it turns out that his decision to take a break had already been planned.
The actor intended to spend quality time with his wife, Elsa Pataky, and their children, India Rose, Tristan, and Sasha.
Hemsworth expressed frustration with the misunderstanding surrounding his break, stating that he felt annoyed by the assumption that he was retiring due to his Alzheimer's discovery.
"It really kind of pissed me off because it felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and shared this," he revealed.
"No matter how much I said ‘This is not a death sentence,’ the story became that I have dementia and I’m reconsidering life and retiring and so on."
While the discovery did not directly trigger his hiatus, it did prompt Hemsworth to make certain lifestyle changes.
Dr. Peter Attia, a longevity specialist featured on the show, advised Hemsworth on reducing his risk of developing Alzheimer's.
To lower the risk of Alzheimer's disease, it was advised for Hemsworth to continue his regular exercise routine.
Other suggestions included brushing and flossing teeth to reduce inflammation, having regular sauna sessions, and learning a second language.
Hemsworth has not yet decided what he will do in the future with his acting career.
The discussion around Hemsworth's potential retirement has garnered attention on social media.
He had a really good career now he can relax and take care of his health, one user said.
I think this should be good experience for a newcomer like him. I hope he will not give up and continue his dreams to become an actor. He has a handsome face and I think he is doing well in Australia, the second user said.
I have dementia on both sides of my family. However, I’m working to actively make sure that it isn’t a part of my own future, the third user shared.
He has a gene which means increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. However, he hasn't been diagnosed with the disease, another wrote.
Chris Hemsworth previously opened up about his regrets regarding a particular movie and expressed that he still struggles to forgive himself.
The Australian actor, known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared his feelings during an interview with Vanity Fair.
Hemsworth admitted that he "got caught up" in the improvisation and exaggerated humor of the film, which led him to become a caricature of himself.
Although the movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, received positive reviews and achieved great success at the box office, Hemsworth felt that he didn't quite deliver his best performance.
