Over the years, he has built an impressive collection, featuring models like a 2009 Chevy Corvette ZRI, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird, and the infamous ‘Corvette InCenaRator.’ His love for luxury vehicles is evident, but it was a 2017 Ford GT that caused significant trouble for the actor.

A collection that catches the eye

Cena’s garage houses several iconic cars, including a 2009 Chevy Corvette ZRI, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird, and the well-known ‘Corvette InCenaRator,’ according to GQ.

But in 2017, it was his purchase of a Ford GT that stirred controversy.

The 2017 Ford GT was not just any car.

Ford produced limited numbers of the supercar each year, and only a select group of “hand-picked customers” could own it.

These customers were chosen through a strict application process, and they had to agree to specific terms. One key rule: they couldn’t resell the car for at least two years after purchase.

Despite being aware of these rules, Cena sold his Ford GT just months after buying it. Reports suggest he even made a profit from the sale, a clear violation of the sales contract.

Ford responded by suing the actor, claiming the unauthorized resale damaged the brand’s image.

In a lawsuit filed in 2017, Ford claimed that Cena’s actions caused them significant damage.

According to Forbes, the lawsuit stated Cena “unfairly made a large profit from the unauthorized resale flip of the vehicle, and Ford has suffered additional damages and losses, including, but not limited to, loss of brand value, ambassador activity, and customer goodwill.”

As a result, Ford sued Cena for $500,000.

Ford and Cena reached an agreement, settling the lawsuit out of court.

By 2018, Cena and Ford reached an agreement outside of court. While the settlement’s details weren’t disclosed, it was clear that the resolution involved a monetary amount directed to charity.

Cena also issued a public apology, expressing his love for the Ford GT and encouraging other owners to respect the sales agreement.

“I love the Ford GT and apologize to Ford, and encourage others who own the car to respect the contract. I am pleased we could resolve this matter outside of court, and that a worthy charity will benefit from one of the most iconic cars in the world.”

John Cena’s passion for cars is undeniable, but his 2017 Ford GT landed him in an unexpected legal battle.

By violating the sales agreement, he faced a lawsuit that brought significant attention to both his actions and the brand’s exclusivity rules.
