A Gen Z applicant was left in tears after being rejected from her dream job, claiming age discrimination was the reason.

A young woman from the Gen Z generation recently shared her emotional experience after being rejected for a job.

The story has resonated with many people on social media, particularly among her peers.

Alejandra, a TikTok user @fungalmicrobe, posted a video expressing frustration and sadness over the hiring process.

Gen Z applied for her ideal job but faced rejection.

Alejandra applied for a position at a company where she had previously worked.

She felt confident about her chances since she was familiar with the team and had performed well in the past.

However, after a long wait, she discovered that she did not get the job.

This news hit her hard, especially because she believed she was a perfect fit for the role.

In her video, Alejandra revealed how she learned about the rejection.

She happened to encounter the hiring manager in an elevator, where she was informed that someone else had been chosen for the position.

The hiring manager stated that the selected candidate had more experience with the company.

“If you’re wondering what the job market looks like right now, look no further than my swollen eyelids,” she said.

“That’s been making me cry for the better part of the last five hours,” the woman shared.

After hearing the news, Alejandra spent hours crying and processing her feelings.

She described her swollen eyelids and the overwhelming emotions that came with the rejection.

This situation highlights the struggles many young job seekers face in today’s competitive job market.

Determined to understand what went wrong, Alejandra asked the hiring manager for feedback.

She wanted to know if there was anything she could improve for future interviews.

However, the manager’s response left her feeling even more discouraged.

“I was a shoo-in. I had done the job before and fit in really well with the team.”

Alejandra felt the age bias of the company hurt her.

The hiring manager noted Alejandra shared inappropriate personal information.

Alejandra had talked about her health issues, including her experience with multiple sclerosis, and her interest in social media.

The manager pointed out that discussing such topics could be seen as oversharing.

“You have to understand it’s all about perception, it’s all about optics.

Gen Z needs to understand that you don’t have to share everything about yourself,” the hiring manager allegedly said.

Additionally, the hiring manager expressed concern about Alejandra not having a five-year plan.

This comment struck a nerve, as it reflected a common stereotype about younger workers.

Alejandra felt that being judged for not having a detailed career plan at her age was unfair.

She argued that many young people are still figuring out their paths and shouldn’t be penalized for it.

“I just graduated a year ago and no I don’t know what I want my future to look like,” Alejandra declared.

“But I’m a good worker and my resume shows for it,” she said.

In her video, she criticized companies preferring polished but less genuine candidates.

She believes that employers should give younger applicants a chance, even if they do not fit the typical mold.

Social media reactions

After sharing her experience, Alejandra received a wave of support from fellow Gen Zers.

Many people chimed in with their own stories of job rejections and the challenges they face in the workforce.

On the otherhand, there were people affirmed that the Gen Z’s behavior was the reason why she didn’t get the job.

They supported Alejandra and criticized age bias and unrealistic employer expectations.

Her reactions and response are proof as to why she was not hired.

Also, her former coworkers are a clue that she was not wanted back when they did not tell her about the job opening, one user said.

If the hiring manager actually told her all of this, the hiring manager is asking for trouble.

For legal reasons, most intelligent hiring managers are VERY careful about what they tell rejected candidates, the second user wrote.

She excelled so much, the best excellent of all. So much so that the team kept quiet about the opening.

These type of people blame everyone but themselves & are a pain to work with, the third user said.

I would never hire anyone who posted videos of themselves talking into the camera about anything that’s not related to the profession & not presented professionally.

Anyone who shares anything personal, I do not hire, another wrote.
