In the footage, she asked: "Here’s a life hack you probably didn’t know.

"Do you ever wonder why your toothbrush has different colours? There’s a reason for that. The smallest of the colours, usually near the top, is to show you how much toothpaste you actually should be using."

The reason behind that is to indicate how much toothpaste you should be using. The smallest of the colors, typically near the top, serves this purpose.

This is seen as the recommended amount of toothpaste each adult should use is around a pea-sized amount, it actually makes sense.

"You're actually not supposed to put the toothpaste all along the brush."

Pointing out the dark blue section of her toothbrush, Jess explains: "You should do use about a pea-size amount of toothpaste on the dark blue section here."

In the case of kid's toothbrushes, you'll find a similar indicator, where the dark bristles are smaller and positioned towards the center of the brush.

"Here’s a toddler toothbrush and you can see the blue in the middle shows you exactly how much toothpaste to measure out," she adds.

Since being posted,  the video had numerous comments from viewers who were just discovering the truth.

One person's comment: The smallest of the colours, usually near the top, is to show you how much toothpaste you actually should be using.

Another wrote: My dentist has told me this yes its true. too much of anything is a bad thing.

One person commented: I use bamboo toothbrushes which could probably also be coloured (some have dark bristles).

Someone else said: Did not realized that's what the other color was. I believe the other blue section is to let you know when to change your toothbrush.

Another commented: So i've used 10,000% more toothpaste than I needed, all my life?

Someone else added: When you coupon, toothpaste is free so you can use as much as you want!
