Actor Joe Pantoliano hints at moving abroad due to growing unease with America’s political direction.
The Sopranos star Joe Pantoliano is the latest celebrity to voice plans to leave the U.S.
His decision is due to political discomfort and concerns about the country’s future.
Known for his role as Ralph Cifaretto, the actor says he no longer feels comfortable living in the United States.
He is now eyeing Portugal as a possible new home.
Speaking at a New York premiere, Pantoliano shared that he and his wife had just returned from vacation and seriously discussed relocating permanently.
“We just got back. We really love it there,” he said.
Pantoliano has fears about recent cyberattacks
Pantoliano fears instability and sees recent cyberattacks as warning signs for what’s ahead
He told Page Six he suspects Portugal’s recent 18-hour blackout was caused by a cyberattack.
He sees it as a preview of what could potentially happen in America.
“They just got hit with a cyberattack,” he said. “And I think that’s just a rehearsal for what will happen here in the United States.”
The 73-year-old actor, born in New Jersey, added that he keeps emergency cash at home — hidden, of course, but “there’s no map,” he joked.
Portugal plans to move out of the U.S. after Trump’s 2024 return
Portugal joins a growing list of celebrities moving abroad after Trump’s 2024 return.
If Joe Pantoliano moves to Portugal, he won’t be alone.
Many celebrities have decided to leave the country since Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory.
Among them:
– Rosie O’Donnell, who moved to Ireland with her child Clay.
– Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, now living in the English countryside.
– Richard Gere and wife Alejandra, relocating to Spain.
– Courtney Love, who confirmed her permanent move to the U.K.
– Suits actor Gabriel Macht and his family, now living abroad (location undisclosed).
Pantoliano’s past comments reveal deep disillusionment with Trump
In 2021, Pantoliano blasted figures like Donald Trump and Roger Stone for misinterpreting The Sopranos.
He also criticized them for glamorizing criminal behavior.
He criticized how “scumbags like Trump” idolize characters like Tony Soprano. He also said that the slow was meant to expose these people, not celebrate them.
“What always upset me was that the majority of the audience didn’t get the genius of David Chase, and what David Chase was saying about these monsters,” he told the Independent in 2021.
He added, “Tony Soprano becomes a hero when he’s a broken-down gangster and a murderer. Scumbags like Trump and Roger Stone, all these white-collar criminals, continue to be quoted as using The Godfather and The Sopranos as a blueprint for being d*****bags! I mean, how f***ed up is that?”
Pantoliano makes clear he’s disturbed by today’s America
While he didn’t name Donald Trump outright in recent interviews, Pantoliano was candid about his emotional state and discomfort with U.S. politics.
“I’m so uncomfortable with what’s happening in our country. I just want to run for the hills,” he said while attending Stanley Tucci’s event in New York.
