A Florida woman hit a $1 million jackpot but then was left in disappointment after a call from the police.

A woman named Kathryn Faver, aged 58 and residing in Florida, experienced an incredible stroke of luck when she won a $1 million lottery jackpot.

However, their joy quickly turned into despair when the call came from the police, shattering their dreams.

Last September, Kathryn won a massive sum of $1 million from a scratch-off ticket called '500X THE CASH.'

After receiving the winning information, she decided to choose the money as a lump sum. Therefore, after settling the necessary taxes, she was left with approximately $800,000.

Like many other Americans, Kathryn also wished to fulfill her dream of owning a home.

With her newfound wealth, she decided to purchase a new house, paying a substantial amount of $400,000 in cash. She wasted no time and started moving into her new home on the very same day.

Lottery winners often face criticism for their poor management skills, leading to the rapid loss of their fortunes.

However, this Florida woman had a wise choice in spending her money. She acted responsibly and made a sensible decision by selecting a reasonably priced house.

Although she had not yet acquired homeowners insurance for the property, she placed all her boxes and possessions inside the house.

Despite the risky decision, she really thought that everything would work out for the best.

Unfortunately, the joy of her winnings quickly turned into disappointment when the police contacted her.

That evening, Kathryn was out picking up her dog, and she suddenly received an unexpected phone call from the police.

They informed her that her newly purchased house had caught fire and everything had gone up in smoke.

Fortunately, Kathryn had not been in the house when the fire broke out. She had spent the entire day inside without any incident and had left only briefly to retrieve her beloved pet.

Reflecting on the situation, Kathryn expressed her sorrow, saying, "I didn’t even get to spend the night in it, not even 10 minutes."

Due to her recent illness in the weeks leading up to the home purchase, she had not yet obtained homeowners insurance. Typically, when purchasing a home with cash, insurance is not mandatory.

Not having insurance made the pain of losing her possessions in the fire even worse.

Kathryn blamed herself for the fire, calling it her own mistake.

She said that the movers left boxes on the stove, which caused it to turn on and start the fire. However, the moving company refused to take responsibility, citing their policy against placing objects on stoves.

The fire department confirmed that the fire began in the kitchen and spread to the living room, causing significant damage.

As a result, Kathryn is now facing financial difficulties, as she had put all her money into the house and is unsure about what to do next.

After taxes, Kathryn received $500,000 from her $1 million lottery win. She used $400,000 to purchase the house and donated $10,000 to a church where one of her sons serves as a pastor.

The remaining money was used to cover various bills and expenses.
