A man was shocked to discover he had been paying his neighbor’s electric bill for almost twenty years without knowing.
A man recently discovered that he had been paying his neighbor’s electric bill for almost 20 years.
This unusual situation has left him feeling both baffled and frustrated.
It raises questions about how this mistake could happen and what it means for both parties involved.
Man suspects there’s something wrong with his electric bill.
A man, named Ken Wilson, noticed an inconsistency in this billing statement.
Ken Wilson from Vacaville, California, noticed his electric bill was higher than usual.
He looked into it, and the local power company revealed that the bill he had been paying was not his.
“I’ve been trying to conserve electricity and lower my costs because it was getting really expensive,” Wilson said.
“I kept going outside to check my meter… and I couldn’t believe it.”
For nearly two decades, he paid the same amount each month without suspecting anything unusual.
It was only when he decided to review his finances more closely that he stumbled upon this surprising truth.
When receiving a notice from the utility company, he was informed that there was an error in the billing process.
Man baffled after finding out he’d paid neighbor’s electric bill for almost two decades
After further investigation, it was revealed that the man had been mistakenly linked to his neighbor’s account.
For nearly 20 years, he had been covering the electric costs for the neighboring household without realizing it.
This revelation raised numerous eyebrows and led to a variety of emotions, from disbelief to annoyance.
Wilson resides in unit 91, but he was actually covering the electric bill for the nearby unit 90.
PG&E verified this during their visit to check his power meter.
“I thought there was a leak or someone was stealing my electricity or the meter was faulty because something wasn’t right,” he said.
“I feel powerless right now because I can’t control my own meter,” Wilson added.
“Tbh, I just hope that this story is going to help others, I can be the only one,” he emphasized.
The man began to consider the financial implications.
He calculated the total amount he had paid over the years and realized it could add up to a significant sum.
Wilson thought that having spent all that money on someone else’s utility bill was frustrating.
The electric company issues an apology to the man
Following the incident, the company PG&E acknowledged the error and agreed to investigate how it occurred in the first place.
They assured Wilson that they would work to fix the billing discrepancy and prevent it from happening again.
“We sincerely apologize for the oversight and regret any inconvenience caused by the duration of this issue,” PG&E said.
On social media, many users shared their confusion about the situation.
They couldn’t believe how such a mistake could happen.
Some people commented on how important it is to check bills regularly to avoid issues like this.
Others joked about the mix-up, saying they would be upset if they were in Wilson’s position.
This happened to me to until we realised they charged us for the wrong unit, one user shared the same experience.
They did it to us in my country just exchanged our name with someone else who owe them when we found out now was done till date after we take them to court, the second user also shared their story.
Of course, it was PG&E. It’s past time to #breakuppge, the third user called to action.
I like how they nonchalantly call it an “oversight”. They need to give him a nice chunk of change for that oversight! Another wrote.
