A man returned from his holiday to find his Range Rover “written off” after being parked at the airport meet and greet.
A shocking incident occurred when a man returned from his holiday.
He discovered that his Range Rover had been severely damaged while parked at an airport meet-and-greet service.
This unfortunate event raises concerns about the safety and reliability of such services, especially for those who travel frequently.
A man left his white Range Rover at Manchester airport meet-and-greet
Ioan Williams, a 44-year-old father, drove his white Range Rover to Manchester Airport on August 9.
He was excited for a week-long holiday in Alicante, Spain, with his two children, Ela and Sion.
Before leaving, Ioan ensured that his car was in perfect condition.
He noted that it “didn’t have a scratch on it” when he handed it over to the meet-and-greet service.
This service is typically chosen for its convenience, allowing travelers to leave their vehicles and head straight to the terminal.
“My car didn’t even have as much as a scratch on it. I dropped my keys off inside the terminal where they gave me a receipt.
We then went away on our holiday,” he said.
Man baffled to find Range Rover “written off” after leaving it at airport meet and greet
Upon returning to Manchester on August 16, Ioan was greeted by three men in a van who had some troubling news.
After scanning his barcode for his keys, the system displayed a message that read “seek attention.”
Immediately sensing that something was wrong, Ioan feared the worst, perhaps his car had been stolen.
However, he was informed that one of the drivers had damaged his vehicle.
Feeling anxious, Ioan followed the men to his car.
To his dismay, he noticed that the driver’s side wheel was at an unusual angle, indicating a serious impact.
Ioan revealed: “When we walked up to the car, I noticed that the angle of the wheel wasn’t right, and obviously been involved in a high impact and I stated this to him.
He agreed and said that the driver had been dealt with but there weren’t any cameras in that area.”
Although he initially hoped for minor damage, it became clear that the situation was much worse than he had anticipated.
The men confirmed that the driver had been reprimanded, but they also noted that there were no cameras in that area to capture the incident.
The damage to Ioan’s Range Rover was significant. He later learned that repairs would cost over $21,000.
Unfortunately, this meant that the vehicle was considered a write-off, given its repair costs far exceeded its value.
Ioan expressed his disappointment, stating, “I loved that car; I bought it for myself for my 40th birthday.”
Although he received compensation from his insurance company, the emotional toll of losing a cherished vehicle was still heavy on him.
After the incident, Ioan faced additional challenges.
Since the Range Rover was no longer drivable, he had to pay for a taxi to take his family home, arriving at 5 AM after a long night.
Returning from a relaxing holiday only to find his damaged car added to Ioan’s frustration.
He faced an unfortunate situation that took away from the joy of his trip.
Manchester Airport responded to the incident by refunding the $199 Ioan paid for the parking service.
However, he expressed dissatisfaction with their lack of communication.
Despite claiming they were in touch regarding the matter, he had not received an apology or any offer of compensation beyond the parking refund.
He remarked that this experience had led him to decide never to use their meet-and-greet service again.
As of now, Manchester Airport is in discussions with Ioan and his insurance company to resolve the issue further.
They stated that they typically issue an apology once the situation is fully addressed, but they could not comment on the specifics due to ongoing discussions.
“Manchester Airport refunded the $199 I paid to park there.
But I haven’t had an apology email/letter from them or an offer of compensation whatsoever.
I’m there quite often but I’ll never use their meet and greet service again,” he damningly stated.
