Just because he wanted to party, the man made the worst decision ever, which caused a massive flood.

In 1993, a man from Missouri deliberately caused a huge flood over a vast area of 14,000 acres.

He did this to stop his wife from coming back home so that he could continue partying.

This action was both shocking and cruel, leaving many people surprised.

The man was under suspicion due to his statement during an interview.

The man's name is James Scott.

He arranged this flood when heavy rainfall and high water levels in the Missouri and Upper Mississippi River basins.

The pressure on the levees that held back the rivers became too much, leading to their failure across Iowa and Missouri.

More than 1,000 levees were collapsed during this devastating flood.

James Scoot came under suspicion when he openly admitted to witnessing seepage at one of the levees during an interview with a local TV station.

Authorities targeted Scott because they had carefully checked the levee just two hours before the disaster.

Scott was initially released but was later arrested on an unrelated burglary charge in October 1993.

During questioning, he confessed to removing sandbags from the levee just before the massive flood.

He claimed that he did so to point out a problem area.

However, a witness later revealed that Scott had told his friends in another way.

According to his friend's statements, he tried to stop his wife from coming back home so he could keep partying with friends.

Therefore, the man came up with a bold idea to leave his wife stranded due to water.

It is believed that Scott intentionally messed up the levee, cutting plastic sheets and creating an opening for water to rush in.

Regrettably, theconsequences of his actions were devastating.

The Great Flood of 1993 resulted in the loss of 47 lives and forced around 54,000 people to evacuate.

The estimated damages amounted to a staggering $15 to $20 billion.

James Scott was finally found guilty and convicted of Intentionally Causing a Catastrophe, which is classified as a Class A Felony.

He was sentenced to 20 years in prison to life.

However, in 2018, Scott maintained his innocence during an interview, stating that there was no solid evidence presented during his trial to prove his guilt.

He emphasized that the massive flood was due to Mother Nature and he did not break the West Quincy Levee.
