Concerns increase in reports of fatal accidents caused by taking selfies

A global study revealed that between 2011 and 2017, 259 people lost their lives while taking selfies.

These deaths resulted from 137 separate incidents, with an average age of around 23 years. It is worth noting that nearly three-quarters of the victims were men and common causes of death included transport accidents, drowning, and falls.

According to a study conducted by the US National Library of Medicine, there has been a worrisome surge in selfie-related deaths.

In 2011, only three deaths were reported, but by 2016, the number had skyrocketed to 98, depicting a substantial and alarming rise in such incidents.

Previous studies on this topic were criticized for their lack of accuracy, as they relied on sources such as Twitter and Wikipedia.
