A man spent 28 years bent over due to a rare bone condition.

Li Hua, who comes from China, faced a type of spinal arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis.

This condition mainly affects young males and leads to immobility of vertebral and sacroiliac joints due to the fusion of bones.

Over time, Li Hua's condition got worse, and his upper body bent down towards his thighs, leaving him permanently hunched.

However, in 2020, there was a small ray of hope for Li Hua and his family. They were able to gather enough money for the required medical treatment.

Dr. Tao explained the fatal risks of Li Hua's surgeries.

Dr. Tao Huiren from Shenzhen University General Hospital took up the difficult task of building a comprehensive medical plan for Li Hua.

The doctor emphasized the risks involved, explaining that the surgeries had the potential to cause paraplegia or even death.

However, Li Hua and his family made the courageous decision to proceed with the operations.

The surgical journey included four separate procedures aimed at breaking and reconstructing Li Hua's bones to help him stand up straight once again.

During the first surgery, Li Hua underwent a femoral osteotomy.

This procedure focused on his thigh bones and aimed to increase the distance between his face and thigh bone, preparing for the following surgeries.

To ensure the operations' success, a tube was inserted into Li Hua's windpipe for anesthesia, a crucial step in the process.

After three hours, the first surgery was successfully completed, followed by a cervical osteotomy that involved breaking and reconstructing Li Hua's cervical spine.

The third step in the process was a lumbar spine osteotomy, where Li Hua's lumbar spine was broken and reconstructed.

Dr. Tao stated the combination of these surgeries in just a short space of time was a groundbreaking achievement.

During the final surgery, Li Hua's hip joints were replaced, allowing him to stand up straight once again.

After a grueling seven-hour operation, Li Hua emerged triumphantly, able to gaze upwards at the sky for the first time in nearly three decades.

Li Hua expressed his desire to recover quickly so that his mother could be relieved of the burden she had carried for so long.
