Recently, an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has resulted in one death and ten hospitalizations.

Symptoms of an E. coli infection

Health officials are urging anyone who has eaten a Quarter Pounder and is experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention.

Symptoms of an E. coli infection can include stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.

These symptoms usually appear three to four days after exposure to the bacteria.

The death linked to the outbreak occurred in an individual who had consumed a Quarter Pounder.

A McDonald’s executive said that the slivered onions used in the Quarter Pounder might connect to the outbreak.

The CDC has not released the person’s identity but noted that doctors hospitalized the individual before they passed away.

Their family has been notified about the situation, and health officials are working to provide support.

Ten others have been hospitalized as well. Health authorities are monitoring their conditions closely.

McDonald’s has stated that they are cooperating fully with health officials.

McDonald’s chief supply chain officer, Cesar Piña, said:

“The initial findings from the investigation indicate that a subset of illnesses may be linked to slivered onions used in the Quarter Pounder and sourced by a single supplier that serves three distribution centers.”

“All other menu items, including other beef products (including the Cheeseburger, Hamburger, Big Mac, McDouble and the Double Cheeseburger) are unaffected and available,” he added

In another statement, McDonald’s said, “We take food safety very seriously and are working with the CDC and local health departments to address this situation.

Our top priority is the health and safety of our customers.”
