Mel Gibson’s $14.5M Malibu mansion was destroyed by wildfires while he filmed Joe Rogan’s podcast, leaving him devastated.
Mel Gibson, the famous actor known for his roles in movies like Braveheart and Mad Max, faced a shocking loss recently.
While he was in Texas filming a podcast with Joe Rogan, his $14.5 million mansion in Malibu was destroyed by wildfires.
The fires have been raging through Los Angeles, affecting many homes and communities.
Gibson returned home to find that his mansion was gone.
In an emotional interview, he shared his feelings about the loss. “It’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” he said, reflecting on the experience of coming back to “nothing.”
He knew that his neighborhood was in danger while he was filming the podcast, which made him uneasy.
Mel began: ‘Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional.’
“I was doing the Rogan podcast… And [I was] kind of ill at ease while we were talking, because I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I thought, I wonder if my place is still there.
“But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there. I went home and I said to myself, well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore.”
Gibson humorously reflects on his loss.
When he finally got back, he was met with the harsh reality.
“I went home and said to myself, well, at least I don’t have any pesky plumbing problems anymore,” he joked, trying to find humor in the situation.
Despite the loss of his home and many personal belongings, Gibson remained positive about his family’s safety.
He mentioned that he had lost many cherished items, including photographs and clothing, but he acknowledged that these items could be replaced.
“The good news is that my family and those I love are all well,” he said.
The mansion’s history
The mansion, built in 1996, was a beautiful property that Gibson purchased in 2008 for $11.5 million.
It had five bedrooms and a unique castle-like design.
For years, Gibson had been trying to sell the mansion.
At one point, he even reduced the asking price by $3 million. Now, the property is just a memory.
Gibson expressed concerns about environmental neglect.
During the podcast with Joe Rogan, Gibson shared his thoughts on the wildfires.
He expressed concern about the state of society and the environment.
Gibson mentioned that we are seeing signs of a possible collapse, referring to a book by Jared Diamond titled Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed.
He believes that society is not taking enough care of the environment, which can lead to disasters like wildfires.
Gibson’s son, Milo, who is part of the volunteer fire brigade in Malibu, shared videos of their neighborhood engulfed in flames.
This made the situation feel even more real for Gibson.
Despite the tragedy, he noted that he has another home in Costa Rica, where he plans to spend time.
“I love it there,” he said, hinting that this might be a chance for a fresh start away from California.
The impact of wildfires
The wildfires in Los Angeles have caused significant destruction, leaving many people without homes.
The fires have been fueled by strong winds and dry vegetation.
Many celebrities, like Gibson, have lost their homes in this disaster.
The situation has become increasingly dire, with thousands of people under evacuation orders and many without power.
