Mom gives birth during Disneyland trip without even realizing the pregnancy, leaving the family stuck in Hurricane Milton zone.
Dayna Sly’s dream vacation to Disneyland took a shocking turn when she unexpectedly gave birth to her daughter, Audrey.
The Australian mother had no idea she was pregnant when she and her fiancé, Tony O’Keefe, traveled to the United States for a holiday.
Mom unexpectedly gives birth on Disneyland trip even without any signs of pregnancy
The couple arrived in Florida excited for their trip to the famous theme park. However, just before Hurricane Milton hit, Dayna went into labor.
She had experienced some health issues, but doctors believed she had polycystic ovary syndrome.
Without any signs of pregnancy, like a baby bump or morning sickness, Dayna had no clue she was carrying a child.
As the hurricane approached, she suddenly began having contractions.
The family was staying in a hotel, and Dayna was unable to reach the hospital in time.
With the storm raging outside, she gave birth in the hotel bathroom during a blackout.
Paramedics arrived quickly but could not assess her condition until after the baby was born.
Despite the chaos, both Dayna and her baby were unharmed. Baby Audrey was born safe and healthy, even without prenatal care.
Dayna later expressed disbelief at how well her daughter was doing, especially considering the circumstances.
“I can’t believe how well she’s doing considering some of the stuff Mum was doing, like going on rides and going on a plane at 41 weeks pregnant,” Dayna said.
Meanwhile, Tony, who was asleep during the delivery, woke up to an unexpected surprise.
“When I first woke up, I thought, ‘This is the weirdest dream ever,’” Tony recalled, still in shock.
The family was stuck in the disaster zone and was unable to return home after unexpected birth
While the family survived the hurricane, they soon faced a new challenge: they were stuck in a bureaucratic nightmare.
Baby Audrey is a U.S. citizen because she was born in the country, but her parents are Australian.
This situation means they need to apply for Audrey’s Australian citizenship, which could take months to process.
Dayna and Tony are from Raymond Terrace in New South Wales, and they were hoping to return home soon.
However, the application for Audrey’s citizenship could delay their plans by up to seven months.
The couple worries about their finances, as they cannot stay in the U.S. indefinitely without funds.
Tony shared their frustrations with reporters, saying, “We don’t have that sort of balance or funds to live here for almost a year.”
They have travel insurance that covers medical expenses, but it does not assist with their living costs while they wait for citizenship approval.
In light of their struggles, Dayna and Tony have reached out to the Australian government for assistance.
They expressed their desperation, hoping for a quicker resolution.
“I’ve got to get home, and we don’t know if they’re going to let us home or if we can even get home in the near future,” Dayna said.
A spokesperson from the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the government is aware of their situation and is providing support.
However, due to privacy regulations, they could not share specific details about the couple’s case.
