White sneakers

According to them, first and foremost, white sneakers are a big no-no according to the doormen.

While many people love white sneakers, doormen see them as a lack of imagination. They believe that white sneakers instantly signal that you are not fun on the dance floor.

Remarkably, white sneakers, especially for young straight guys in New York, have become a standard aesthetic.

However, if you’re trying to enter a club with a vibrant atmosphere, white sneakers may not be enough to impress the doormen.

Another fashion choice that doormen frown upon is Golden Goose shoes.

These intentionally scuffed and dirty-looking shoes have gained popularity among millennials and Gen Z.

However, doormen view them as a trend that lacks originality. They claim that the widespread adoption of Golden Goose shoes reflects a herd mentality rather than a personal style.

Crocs are another item that should be left at home when going to the club.

While there might be exceptions for designer collaborations like Balenciaga Crocs, doormen generally consider them inappropriate for club attire.

Crocs are not seen as fashionable or stylish, and they don’t contribute to the desired ambiance of the club.

Loro Piana slippers are also on the list of fashion choices to avoid.

According to one doorman, they even induce nausea. Personal style and individuality are highly valued, and Loro Piana slippers are not seen as fitting into that category.

Shorts are generally discouraged, especially if they reveal your kneecaps. Doormen prefer a more dressed-up look for club attire.

However, there may be exceptions for high-end designer shorts like Miu Miu or Prada, as they can elevate your outfit and demonstrate thoughtfulness in your fashion choices.

Preppy clothes for the Hamptons

Doormen also suggests leaving preppy clothes for the Hamptons and focusing on creating a more intentional and stylish look.

While preppy clothes can be cool, it’s important to style them in a way that stands out and showcases your personal flair.

Nap dresses

Lastly, nap dresses, although great for summer, are not suitable for the club scene. The purpose of going to a club is not to take a nap, so wearing a nap dress might send the wrong message.
