The Truth Behind How Crab Sticks Are Made

When enjoying our favorite foods, many of us don’t think about how they’re actually made. However, when you see how items like chicken nuggets or hot dogs are produced, it really makes you reconsider what we’re putting into our bodies. Last year, people were seriously disturbed after seeing how crab sticks are made, and some even vowed never to eat them again.
The Process of Making Crab Sticks

Although a beloved snack, these treats have a rather disturbing story about how they go from the sea to your plate. It all starts with meat – frozen fish meat, not crab as you might think.
Simply put, this gray meat comes from a species called Alaskan Pollock. It’s then fed into a mixer, mashed up, and mixed with ingredients like egg whites and wheat, before being mixed again.
This results in a paste-like substance that might remind you of building putty or clay.
Reactions After Discovering How They’re Made
A lot of people are not happy with their newfound knowledge. “I will never purchase this ever again! Thank you for opening my eyes!” one person commented, while another added: “I always thought this stuff was disgusting, now I KNOW it is.”
However, not everyone will be giving up crab sticks anytime soon. “I love adding lots of mock crabmeat to my delicious pasta salad recipe. See, now y’all went and made me hungry!!!” someone else said.
Another agreed: “To be perfectly honest, I like the product. It’s very affordable and makes a very good cold crab salad.”
