SNL cast member recalls how Elon Musk made her ‘burst into tears’ during his time as host
Chloe Fineman opened up about her feelings in a TikTok video that she later deleted.
She explained how excited she was to write a sketch for Musk and how much effort she put into it. However, when she presented her ideas to him, she felt dismissed.
Fineman described Musk’s reaction as cold and unkind, saying he looked at her as if he were firing her from Tesla.

This interaction left her feeling hurt and undervalued.
“You made I, Chloe Fineman, burst into tears because I stayed up all night writing this sketch.”
She continued: “I was so excited, I came in, I asked if you had any questions and you stared at me like you were firing me from Tesla, and were like, ‘It’s not funny.’ I waited for you to be like, ‘Haha, JK.’ No.
“Then you started pawing through my script, like flipping each page being like, ‘I didn’t laugh. I didn’t laugh once, not one time’.”

The sketch received positive feedback from audiences.
Despite the difficulties in their interaction, Fineman’s sketch made it onto the episode.
She mentioned that while Musk did not find her ideas funny at first, the sketch ultimately turned out well.
“I actually had a really good time, and I thought you were really funny in it, but, you know, have a little manners here, sir.”
She believes that hosts should approach their collaborations with more respect and consideration for the cast members’ efforts.

Musk responded to criticism
After Fineman’s comments gained attention, Elon Musk responded on social media.
He acknowledged her concerns, stating that the sketches only began to generate laughs shortly before the show aired.
Musk expressed worry that his performance would not be well-received, but he felt relieved that it worked out in the end.
His response indicates that he may not fully understand the impact of his words and actions on the cast.

Must wrote: “SNL has been dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality.
Their last-ditch effort to cheat the equal airtime requirements and prop up Kamala before the election only helped sink her campaign further. @nbcsnl.”
Musk did respond to Fineman, posting on X and saying: “Frankly, it was only on the Thursday before the Saturday that ANY of the sketches generated laughs.
I was worried.” He concluded that he was worried his performance was going to be ‘unfunny’ but “it worked out in the end.”
