Mandy Moore explains her decsion to share the GoFundMe
Mandy Moore originally posted the GoFundMe on January 9, explaining that her in-laws, Griff and Kit Goldsmith, had lost everything in the Eaton Fire.
“With their first baby due in weeks, they need our support now more than ever,” Moore wrote in her post.
However, Moore faced criticism for asking for public donations despite her celebrity status. In response, she edited her caption to address the backlash.
“People questioning whether we’re helping out our family…is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are,” she clarified.
She also expressed frustration, writing, “We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”
Mandy Moore shares her own loss in the fires
Moore revealed that her Altadena home had been damaged in the Eaton Fire. While the main structure survived, it was left unlivable.
“Our garage, back house, and Griff’s studio were destroyed,” Moore wrote. She added that her brother- and sister-in-law, who are expecting a baby in six weeks, also lost their home.
“Every house on our street is gone,” she shared. “We feel survivors’ guilt but are committed to rebuilding and supporting our community.”
Additionally, other celebrities impacted by the fires include Milo Ventimiglia, Paris Hilton, and Miles Teller. These fires, which began on January 7, have left widespread destruction across California.
