A Starbucks barista, also a student, shared a tearful video expressing their struggles with working hours.

In the clip, the employee shares their thoughts on management and rude customers. However, what prompted a reaction online was the person's schedule: a 25-hour week with 8-hour shifts during the weekend.

In the video, the Starbucks barista said: “I’m a full time student, I get scheduled for 25 hours a week. And then on weekends, they scheduled me the entire day, open to close, that one’s scheduled for eight and half hours, both Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m three and a half hours into my shift. There’s so many customers and we have four people on the floor all day. Only five people were put on schedule and somebody had to call out.”

They also say that the managers of lacking concern and refusing to offer assistance, the barista expressed their frustration, claiming that they "don't care about us" and "don't want to help us."

The barista also mentioned experiencing rudeness from customers and being misgendered, and finished by saying: “I don’t get accomodations for being neurodivergent, people get mad at me for having too much sick time. I don’t even know what to do anymore, I’m at my wits end with this job.”

With the high cost of education in the US, obtaining a degree can be financially burdensome, leading many students to take on part-time jobs to fund their studies.

Viewers had sympathy for the worker, with one person noting that in addition to their university workload, the student would end up working a 70-hour week.

People wonder why we need a union at Starbucks. I am literally about to quit. Like, I don't know if I'm going to do it. But like I really want to, I almost walked out today. And I'm crying in the back room right now. I almost cried on the floor.

I'm a full time student, I get scheduled for 25 hours a week. And then on weekends, they scheduled me the entire day, open to close, that one's scheduled for eight and half hours, both Saturday and Sunday.

I'm like, three and a half hours into my shift. There are so many customers and we have four people on the floor all day. Only five people were put on the schedule, and somebody had to call out.

There are four people running the store. There's so many customers and they scheduled five people.  We only have 13 people employed at this store. And there's so many customers...

We don't have fair scheduling, managers don't care about us. Our manager was supposed to come in this weekend, and he took himself off the schedule,  so he wouldn't be able to be held accountable for calling out, he just literally tore out the schedule that he was scheduled on and put up a new schedule. Also, he couldn't have even seen that he was scheduled in the first place because he didn't want to be held accountable for not wanting to come in. They don't want to help usWe need a union because this can't happen. This can't happen. We need fair scheduling. We need managers to hold themselves accountable for helping their workers. They refuse to turn mobile orders off. We need the liberty to be able to do that because there's so many mobile orders and I need to get through all of them.

And then people are yelling at me because I don't have orders ready. I don't know what to do. And a customer was misgendering me tonight really badly. I didn't have the order ready, so they were talking to each other and saying things like "She's clearly incompetent". I have a full mustache and beard. What the f**k?

I don't get accommodations for being neurodivergent, people get mad at me for having too much sick time... I don't even know what to do anymore. I'm like at my wit's end with this job. I really am.

At first, the barista received a considerable amount of support. However, as time passed, negative reactions began to pour in, sparking heated arguments about the current state of customer service.
