Tech CEO shaken as Tesla’s self-driving feature takes car onto light rail tracks in California
In Santa Monica, California, a tech CEO had a terrifying experience when his self-driving Tesla veered onto light rail tracks.
Jesse Lyu, the founder of Rabbit, a company that makes AI-powered hardware, shared his ordeal in a video on social media.
This event left him “literally shaking” as he faced a speeding train.
Tech CEO faced a terrifying encounter relating to Tesla’s self-driving
On Thursday, Lyu posted footage of the incident online.
In the video, viewers can see his Tesla driving onto the tracks just as a train was approaching.
Lyu described the situation as “f–king crazy.”
He ran a red light to escape the train’s path, which he felt was a life-threatening moment.
The Tech CEO panicked as the train approached rapidly.
Lyu explained in his video that he had no way to avoid the situation.
The train was coming fast, and he pointed it out in the footage.
His rear dashcam captured the train approaching from behind, only about a block away when he realized what was happening.
“I’ve got nowhere to go,” he said, expressing his panic during the incident.
The video quickly gained attention, with over 720,000 views.
He encountered trouble for the first time.
This incident was particularly alarming for Lyu.
This was the first time he had encountered a problem with the self-driving feature of his Tesla.
He stated, “This time, this one time that scared the s–t out of me. That’s crazy.” After the near-miss, Lyu had to disable the car’s “Autopilot” feature to regain control.
He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the autopilot system should never allow a vehicle to drive onto train tracks.
“This is a serious problem,” he said.
“Regardless of how a human reacts, the autopilot algorithm should never put any of their vehicles onto the train track. That’s just fundamentally wrong.”
Lyu’s experience raises questions about the reliability and safety of self-driving technology.
Incidents like this highlight the dangers of technology failure as companies develop autonomous vehicles.
Tesla has not yet commented on the incident.
Public interest in autonomous driving technology continues to grow, but so do concerns about its safety.
Many people worry about how well these vehicles can navigate complex environments and respond to unexpected situations.
Online users shared opinions on the Tesla’s self-driving feature
All the prior Tesla crashes around the country and E Musk’s almost slavish dedication to preventing any/all lawsuits for damages didn’t convince this CEO that driverless technology is not ready for prime time? One user said.
The auto drive feature, sorry to say, has not been perfected. If you don’t want to, or are too lazy to drive your car, get an uber, the second user wrote.
Musk needs to stop with the auto drive until they fix it, the third user said.
Trusting your very life to software is right up there with buying crypto. At some point both will let you down hard, another user commented.
