However, their plans were canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic. When the opportunity to board the OceanGate submersible arose again, she made the selfless decision to let her son go in her place.

When the Titan lost contact with its mother ship, the Polar Prince, Lady Christine, and her daughter were devastated to hear the news. Things got worse when she waited 96 hours to hear from her husband and son. This is also when the oxygen reserves on board are depleted.

“I said: ‘I’m preparing for the worst.’ That’s when I lost hope.”

Christine said she and her daughter tried to solve the Rubik's Cube in his son's honor after her husband and son died during the death tour. “He was involved in so many things, he helped so many people and I think I think that I really want to continue that legacy and give him that platform when his work has continued and it’s quite important for my daughter as well.”
