Trump sparks online backlash after bizarrely claiming gas and egg prices have dropped, with viewers accusing him of lying on video.

Recently, Donald Trump made headlines for allegedly lying about the prices of gas and groceries.

A video clip has gone viral, showing him discussing the cost of living, which has caused many people to react strongly.

Trump claims that gas and egg prices are substantially down

In the footage, Trump insists that grocery prices have significantly dropped.

He mentions eggs specifically, saying, “The price of groceries are substantially down,” he said.

“The price of eggs. You know, when I came in, [the press] hit me with eggs. I just got there.”

He also claimed that the price of eggs had decreased by 92% since he took office. This statement surprised many viewers who are well aware of the current prices.

He continued: “They said, you won’t have eggs for Easter, which is coming up. Happy Easter, everybody. And now eggs are all over the place, and the price went down 92% and our Commissioner of Agriculture, Brooke [Rollins], has done a fantastic job.”

Trump was responding to a journalist who questioned him about rising costs. He seemed to dismiss her concerns, calling her and her report “fake.”

He stated: “Before I got here…the press, the fake news like you, the fake news is screaming at me, like about eggs.”

Reality check on gas prices

According to recent data, the average price of gasoline in the U.S. was around $3.17 per gallon as of April 17.

This figure contradicts Trump’s claim that gas prices had dropped to $1.98 per gallon.

They wrote: “No state had an average gas price even close to $1.98 per gallon [as of} Wednesday.”

Many people took to social media to express their disbelief, asking where they could find gas at that price.

One user pointed out their recent grocery shopping experience, questioning Trump’s grasp on reality.

Another user expressed a similar sentiment, stating they had just paid $3.15 for gas.

These responses highlight the disconnect between Trump’s statements and everyday experiences.

White House spokesperson Harrison Fields suggested that reporters should look beyond urban areas to see lower gas prices.

However, this claim also faced scrutiny, as no evidence supported the existence of gas prices under $2 anywhere in the country.

GasBuddy, a service that tracks fuel prices, confirmed that no stations were offering gas at that price.

The price of eggs and groceries

When it comes to grocery prices, eggs have seen significant fluctuations recently.

The average cost of a dozen eggs is about $3.13, which is down from a high of $8 last year.

While the decrease is notable, it is still far from the 92% drop that Trump claimed.

When Trump assumed office, the price for a dozen Grade A eggs was $5.81. Just a month ago, the price had climbed to $6.23.

This information indicates that while prices have decreased from their peak, they are still not at the levels Trump suggested.

Social media reactions

Social media users criticized his claims and pointed out the inaccuracies.

CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent, Kaitlan Collins, even fact-checked Trump’s statements on the platform X.

One user said: What a surprise! He lied! How dare he.

The second user wrote: He’s gonna bring food down don’t you worry but the prices keep going up and up!

The third user commented: He never ever stops lying. EVER

The fourth user added: He does this because he knows his base will believe it. No questions asked from them, just believe what orange Pinocchio has to say.

Another user said: When was the last time he shopped at a grocery store?

Someone said: How would you even no you don’t drive or by eggs?
