The program currently helps Americans save about $40 billion annually, according to the U.S. Green Building Council’s legislative director, Ben Evans.

Based on a population of 340 million, that equals$1,176 in annual savings per person, simply by buying energy-efficient products.

According to reports, the Trump administration intends to dismantle Energy Star through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The cost of the program is only $32 million per year, delivering enormous value with minimal taxpayer investment, according to Evans.

“Energy Star saves consumers and businesses more than $40 billion every year just by giving them clear information about the energy efficiency of products or buildings,” he told The Washington Post. “And it does that at a cost of $32 million. So it is an incredible bang for the buck.”

Shutting down Energy Star could undermine efforts to cut costs and improve transparency in government-backed sustainability programs.

The program doesn’t just save money — it also reduces pollution on a massive scale, according to the federal 2023 energy report.

Energy Star has prevented 4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere since its inception.

That figure equals taking more than 933 million gas-powered cars off American roads. This program contributed to national climate goals.
