In a statement aired on live TV, the wife of the man deported to the ‘world’s worst prison’ due to a Trump admin error speaks out after Kilmar Garcia’s deportation to El Salvador.
Jennifer Stefania Vasquez Sura calls for justice after her husband, Kilmar Garcia, was wrongfully deported due to an administrative mistake.
Kilmar Garcia’s Deportation to El Salvador: A heartbreaking mistake
Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a man from Maryland, was wrongfully deported to one of the world’s most notorious prisons in El Salvador last month.
Accoring to report, Garcia entered the U.S. illegally in 2011.
He then was deported to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador after what authorities called an ‘administrative error.’
This facility is known for its harsh conditions.
Despite Garcia’s illegal entry, a U.S. judge ruled in 2019 that he should not be deported, citing credible threats from gangs in El Salvador.
The Trump administration’s role in Garcia’s deportation
The deportation occurred under the Trump administration’s controversial mass deportation policies, which have drawn intense scrutiny.
A law last invoked during World War II allowed the deportation of individuals like Garcia. ‘
The Supreme Court’s recent approval of the law pushed the action forward.
However, after Garcia’s deportation mistake was revealed, the Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to facilitate his return to the U.S.
El Salvador’s Response: No plans to return Garcia to the U.S.
The situation took a dramatic turn during a meeting between U.S. President Trump and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele.
When questioned about facilitating Garcia’s return, Bukele responded emphatically, rejecting the idea:
“I hope you’re not suggesting that I smuggle a terrorist into the United States. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? Of course I’m not going to do it. The question is preposterous,” the El Salvador leader said.
“We just turned the murder capital of the world to the safest country the western hemisphere. And you want us to go back into the releasing criminals, so we can go back to the murder capital of the world, and that’s not going to happen.”
The remark highlighted the strained relationship between the two nations and the political complexities surrounding Garcia’s case.
Wife of man deported to ‘World’s Worst Prison’ due to ‘Trump admin error’ speaks out
Jennifer Stefania Vasquez Sura, Garcia’s wife, has been vocal in the media, calling for her husband’s return and justice.
“I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn’t forgotten about you. Our children are asking when you will come home … they miss their dad so much.” She said,
Vasquez Sura’s heartbreaking statement underscores the personal toll of the mistake and the emotional anguish the family is experiencing.
Judge Paula Xinis questions Trump administration’s lack of action
On Tuesday, April 15, District Judge Paula Xinis raised concerns over the Trump administration’s failure to act on the Supreme Court’s ruling.
“I’ve gotten nothing,” Xinis said. “No real response or legal justification for not answering.”
This lack of action has led the judge to consider whether contempt proceedings against the administration are necessary.
