Deportationand prison controversy: A case of mistaken deportation
Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s deportation to El Salvador was reportedly a mistake.
According to reports, the Trump administration deported him to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador.
Trump’s mass deportation efforts have sent over 250 individuals to CECOT, which is known for its harsh conditions and described as one of the ‘world’s worst prisons.
The Supreme Court ordered Garcia’s deportation, despite his previous allowance to stay in the U.S. due to gang threats in El Salvador.
After Garcia’s deportation, the situation quickly escalated. Talks between former President Trump and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele followed, with no clear resolution in sight.
During an Oval Office meeting, Bukele firmly rejected the notion of smuggling Garcia back into the U.S. He was quoted saying, “How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States?”
