YoA woman was baffled when her Las Vegas hotel bill included an extra fee that tripled the total cost of her stay.
A lady in the United States experienced a big surprise when she checked out of a hotel in Las Vegas.
Her bill, which she thought would be around $200, ended up being three times that amount due to an unexpected charge.
Woman baffled after Las Vegas hotel charges an extra fee on her bill that tripled entire cost
Jocelyn Harper, who creates content online, had chosen to stay at the Westgate Las Vegas during her visit to celebrate Labor Day with her sister.
Wanting a decent place that wasn’t too expensive, she thought the Westgate was a good option at $200 for a night.
However, her plans took a turn when she was presented with a bill that included an additional $566.90 smoking fee.
This extra charge shocked her, as she does not smoke, and was taken aback by the unexpected expense.
The hotel’s policy states that guests who smoke in their rooms will face an extra cleaning fee.
The woman warned others never to stay at Westgate Resort over its policy
Despite this, Jocelyn maintains that she did not smoke during her stay and was not even in her room when the alleged incident occurred at 6:15 pm.
Jocelyn expressed her frustration by taking to TikTok to warn others about her experience at the Westgate resort.
She advised them against staying there because of the unexpected charges she faced.
“Do not, do not stay at the Westgate resort,” she said in the clip.
“I wanted a quick, easy place to stay that has a tram to the strip, something not too expensive but pretty nice… it looked fine, looked good.
“I check out and I have a 500-dollar smoking fee. You know, I don’t smoke,” Jocelyn said.
The woman was refunded by the hotel after a heated dispute
After disputing the fee with the hotel’s management, Jocelyn was initially met with a response that offered no remedy.
However, following her social media posts gaining traction, she was eventually refunded by the hotel and even offered a complimentary two-day stay.
“It was extremely stressful to lose almost $600 like that. I was really upset,” she explained.
The Westgate Resorts Las Vegas has not publicly commented on the incident.
The company responsible for the smoke detectors insisted that the technology was foolproof.
They stated that the room must have been smoked in to trigger the alarm.
“The room was unquestionably smoked in,” FreshAir Sensor Jack O’Toole told Newsweek.
“This technology has been proven in court and through peer-reviewed scientific articles. The Smoking Alert is scientific proof of smoking.”
