Tash, who is 21 years old and from Manchester, decided to get her lips tattooed on January 18.
The procedure, known as lip blushing, involves injecting pigment into the lips to create a semi-permanent color.
Tash hoped this would enhance the look of her lips, which she felt were uneven due to previous filler treatments.
The tattooing process lasted about one and a half hours.
Initially, Tash did not expect any problems. However, she quickly realized something was wrong when her lips began to swell dramatically.
Tash’s lips swelled dramatically after tattooing.
After the procedure, Tash looked in the mirror and was horrified to see her lips had ballooned to five times their normal size.
‘I had a jump scare when I looked at myself in the mirror,’ Tash said. ‘They started swelling as soon as she started doing it.
The swelling started almost immediately, and by the time she was finished, her lips were unrecognizable.
In her shock, Tash compared herself to Fungus, a character from “Monsters Inc.” who has exaggerated features.
Her family also reacted with surprise, with her mother calling her appearance “ugly.”
Even her boyfriend found the situation amusing, leading to a moment of laughter between them.
‘When they’re numbed, they feel swollen anyway, so I didn’t realize how bad it was. I didn’t know my lips could go that big.’
She added: ‘My mum said how “ugly” I looked and her and my dad did the usual thing of saying I “didn’t need it.”
‘When my boyfriend saw me, we both burst out laughing and he shut the door on me.’
The woman had prior cosmetic procedures without issues.
Tash is no stranger to cosmetic procedures.
She had received lip fillers a year prior and had no issues with them. However, this time was different.
She had hoped the lip tattoo would improve the outline of her mouth, which she thought appeared “blurry” due to the fillers.
Despite her previous experiences, Tash learned that tattooing is a different process and can lead to unexpected reactions.
After two days, the swelling began to go down, but she felt self-conscious about leaving the house.
During this time, she wore a mask to cover her lips.
She said: ‘I’ve had lip filler before and had no problems. This has never happened before, but tattooing is different.
‘I have a massive bottom lip and a tiny top lip, so I had filler and didn’t have any regrets.
‘Nobody else noticed it but I felt like my lip outline was blurry, so I wanted to get blush to even it out.
‘The lady who did it said the swelling would go down by the evening, but it took about two days.
‘I had to wear a mask to Asda and luckily I booked the day off work on Monday for my boyfriend’s birthday.’
Social media response
Tash shared her experience on TikTok, gaining over 1.2 million views.
Many viewers commented on her swollen lips, with some suggesting it might be an allergic reaction.
While some were sympathetic, others made jokes about her appearance, comparing her to various cartoon characters.
Tash remained cheerful, laughing off comments and feeling her experience brought joy to viewers.
“It was worth it for the laugh,” she said, noting that she was not in pain and was able to find humor in the situation.

Tash wants to caution others considering lip tattoos or similar cosmetic procedures.
She emphasized the importance of understanding the risks involved.
“Tattooing is different from fillers,” she noted, suggesting that people do their research and consider potential allergic reactions before undergoing any cosmetic treatment.
She also mentioned that she does not blame the practitioner.
“She was really nice and responded promptly to my messages,” Tash said, indicating that the reaction was likely not the fault of the technician.
