Stay single

She believed that her decision to remain single after a tumultuous marriage significantly contributed to her long life.

Emma’s daily routine included a strict diet regimen and avoiding entanglements with men.

She emphasized that her marriage was not of her choosing, recalling how she was pressured into it by a man from her neighborhood who gave her an ultimatum.

“We lived in the same courtyard and one day he sent his mother to call me.

“I went there and he said to me, ‘If it suits you, you can marry me, if not I’ll kill you’. I was 26 years old but got married,” she recalled.

After enduring an unhappy marriage for years, she chose to part ways in 1938, following the tragic loss of her infant son.

After her first marriage, Emma chose not to marry again because she didn’t want anyone controlling her.

She worked until she was 75 and was content with her life. She didn’t need any medicine and stayed active even in her retirement years.

Adhere strict diet and stay optimistic

Despite facing challenges, Emma stayed true to her routine, stayed optimistic, and stuck to her daily diet, which she believed kept her healthy.

Emma followed a consistent diet, eating three eggs daily.

Two of the eggs were raw, and she also drank a homemade alcoholic beverage called grappa.

This dietary practice, established after she was diagnosed with anemia following World War I, remained unchanged for over 90 years.

“I eat three eggs a day and to digest I drink the grappa that I prepare myself.

I put it in a jar with seven sage leaves, a bunch of rue grass and some grapes.

Then I drink it with a spoon.”

Furthermore, Emma credited her genetics for her longevity, as her mother lived to 91 and several of her sisters reached their 100th birthdays.

As she approached her final years, she reduced her egg intake to two per day along with a few biscuits.
