A zoo in China has been heavily criticized for painting dogs black and white to trick visitors into thinking they were pandas.
In a disturbing incident, a zoo in China has been exposed for painting dogs in black and white and presenting them as pandas.
This deceitful act has sparked outrage among the public.
Visitors spotted the Chinese zoo painting dogs to look like pandas.
A video shared on YouTube depicted puppies with black ears, limbs, and faces, along with dark circles around their eyes.
Visitors raised suspicions when these “pandas” began panting inside their enclosure.
Upon questioning, the zoo acknowledged that they had colored two Chow Chows, a breed of spitz dogs from northern China with thick coats.
They emphasized the act of painting dogs to resemble pandas.
The zoo revealed the reason why they painting dogs
They insisted that they did not mislead visitors as they never claimed the dogs were actual pandas; instead, they referred to them as “panda dogs.
Visitors demanded refunds from the park, located in Guangdong Shanwei, which boasts of housing “rare and exotic animals.”
This incident comes after a zoo in Jiangsu Province faced backlash in May for similarly dyeing two Chow Chow dogs to mimic pandas.
The zoo’s defense for showcasing these “panda dogs” was that they lacked real pandas for visitors to see.
They trimmed the dogs’ fur short and applied black and white dye to their bodies and faces, drawing a significant crowd on their debut.
Despite the backlash, the zoo still displays the “panda dogs”
However, locals quickly criticized the attraction, accusing the zoo of animal cruelty.
A spokesperson for the zoo justified their actions by comparing it to people dyeing their hair and mentioned that natural dye could be used on dogs with long fur.
Despite the controversy, the zoo continued to display the “panda dogs” between 8:30 am and 5 pm for visitors to see.
Social media reactions
On social media, many online users expressed outrage at the Chinese zoo’s cheating action.
I went to the Zoo yesterday and saw a baguette in a cage. The Zoo keeper told me it was bread in captivity, one user shared.
I once visited a zoo that only had dogs. There was only one dog to look at. It was a shihtzu, the second user commented.
This is why we seriously need more animals rights ‼️I Stands With Animals safety. Support PETA for animals, the third user called to action.
My issue is is that people went up and saw those and thought they were pandas. I mean unless it’s sleeping and you’re looking at it from a distance, another wrote.
This is cruel. As a proud Chow owner for almost 17 years (my Medo died in June at the age of 16 years and 9 months), this makes me sad. Those dogs deserve a loving home, someone said.
