What is Valentine’s Day?
Every year, on February 14th, Valentine’s Day is celebrated worldwide as a symbol of love. It is a time when couples share heartfelt wishes, gifts, and romantic moments. But did you know that the origins of this day were not as beautiful as the celebrations we see today? In fact, its history is intertwined with a tragic story that not everyone is aware of.
The Origin of Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day dates back to the reign of Emperor Claudius II, who banned marriages in Rome. Saint Valentinus – later known as Saint Valentine – defied this order by secretly officiating weddings for couples in love. This act led to his sentencing and execution on February 14th. Before his death, he wrote a letter to his beloved, signing it “From your Valentine.” This touching story became the inspiration for Valentine’s Day, gradually evolving into the celebration of love we know today.

Wife knocks husband unconscious with a baseball bat in drunken fury after he failed to get her a Valentine’s Day gift
A woman scorned on Valentine’s Day proves a powerful force, as Ohio resident John Hammond, 46, learned the hard way on Sunday. According to police, his wife, Kimberly, attacked him with a mini-baseball bat after he failed to get her a Valentine’s gift.
Washington County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the couple’s Belpre Township home around 11 a.m. Sunday, responding to a 911 call about a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Hammond, who had visible injuries, including scratch marks on his face, sore ribs, and a large bump on the back of his head.
The unfortunate husband explained to deputies that his 46-year-old wife had spent the morning drinking, which led to a heated verbal argument that eventually escalated into physical violence.
During the lovers’ quarrel, Kimberly Hammond allegedly scratched her husband’s face and then attacked him with a mini baseball bat, knocking him out.
Mr Hammond also said that while he was still in a semi-conscious state, his wife kicked him in the ribs several times, reported The Marietta Times.
When interviewed by officials, Mrs Hammond admitted to consuming eight beers after watching a marathon of the AMC hit show The Walking Dead and said she grew upset because her spouse didn’t get her anything for Valentine’s Day, according to a police report cited by People Magazine.
The irate wife was hauled off to the Washington County Jail, where the results of a Breathalyser test showed she had a blood alcohol level of .221.
She has been charged with felonious assault and misdemeanor domestic violence. She was released on bail Monday.
