A remarkable story has emerged from China about a woman who has lived to 107 years old, despite having a strange growth on her forehead.
Known as Chen, this centenarian has captured the attention of many people online, particularly on Douyin, which is the Chinese version of TikTok.
Her unusual condition has sparked curiosity and even admiration.
107-year-old woman has “4-inch horn” on forehead which allegedly contributes to her longevity
Chen has a four-inch horn protruding from her forehead, which some have affectionately dubbed the “longevity horn.”
This unique feature has become part of her identity, and many believe it might be linked to her impressive age.
The growth, officially identified as a cutaneous horn, has developed over several years but does not seem to affect her health negatively.
Doctors explain that cutaneous horns are not very common, but they can appear on various parts of the body.
They are often associated with prolonged sun exposure.
While these growths are generally benign, medical professionals recommend monitoring them closely because there is a slight risk of malignancy.
The woman still lives well despite “4-inch horn” on forehead
In Chen’s case, she remains in good health, enjoying a hearty appetite and a positive outlook on life.
Despite her unusual appearance, Chen has no plans to have her horn removed.
Reactions from the public about the woman’s unusual condition
Many of her fans on social media have encouraged her to keep it, suggesting that it may be a source of her longevity.
Some viewers have shared personal stories, noting that their relatives had similar growths and experienced various health outcomes.
Seriously, why wouldn’t someone want to get that removed asap?? One user said.
I can’t hardly look at that. Moley moley moley vibes, the second user commented.
Judging by all the freckles, she has spent a lot of time in the sun, the third user wrote.
That poor lady having that grotesque thing protruding from her forehead. I would have had it taken off long before it reached that size, another wrote.
Interestingly, Chen is not alone in her experience.
An Idian man faces a challenge as a horn grows from his head
Shyam Lal Yadav, a 74-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh, India, recently underwent surgery to remove a large horn-like growth from his head.
This unusual condition started after he injured himself in 2014. At first, Shyam did not think much of the growth.
It was small, and he even had his barber trim it occasionally.
Over time, however, the growth began to harden and develop into a four-inch protrusion resembling a horn.
Concerned about its appearance and the changes he noticed, Shyam decided to seek medical help.
When he visited the doctors, they identified the growth as a sebaceous horn.
This type of growth forms from compacted keratin, a protein found in hair, nails, and skin.
While sebaceous horns can occur anywhere on the body, they are often found on areas exposed to sunlight, like the head and shoulders.
Dr. Vishal Gajbhiye, the surgeon who treated Shyam, explained that these growths are generally benign but can sometimes indicate a more serious condition.
After examining Shyam’s growth, the medical team performed surgery to remove it. They also grafted skin over the area to aid healing.
Following the operation, Shyam spent ten days recovering in the hospital.
A biopsy confirmed that the growth was harmless, which was a relief for him and his family.
Sebaceous horns are not very common, and cases like Shyam’s are of interest to medical professionals.
His situation has been reported to the International Journal of Surgery to raise awareness about this unique condition.
