On Wednesday afternoon in a Kampala hospital, Safina Namukwaya, who is now 70, gave birth to a boy and a girl.

According to the Women's Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala, Uganda, Safina Namukwaya became the oldest mother to give birth in Africa on Wednesday afternoon when she delivered a boy and a girl.

"This story isn't just about medical success, it's about the strength and resilience of the human spirit," the hospital stated.

After giving birth to a child named Sarah in 2020, Ms. Namukwaya informed the NTV station that this was her second delivery in three years.

The mother claimed that during her pregnancy, she had experienced many issues and challenges, including her children's father abandoning her.

"Men don't like to hear that you are going to have more than one child. Even after I was admitted, my man never showed up," Ms Namukwaya said.

According to Ms. Namukwaya, she had faced stigma in her society for not having children, miscarriages, and the loss of her spouse in the 1990s.

"One time, a very young boy heckled me saying I had been cursed by my mother to die without a child," she said.

"Many people judged and abused me for being barren but, I decided to leave everything to the Almighty God who has finally answered my prayers," she said shortly after the birth of her first daughter.

Although Ms. Namukwaya's situation is rare, giving birth at a later age has happened before.

Erramatti Mangayamma, an Indian woman, became the world's oldest mother in 2019 when she gave birth to twins via IVF at the age of 74.

With her 57-year-husband Sitarama Rajarao by her side, Mangayamma of the state of Andhra Pradesh gave birth to two healthy baby girls.

Since doctors anticipated this would be a historic first, it is thought that the majority of the surgery was funded by the Ahalya IVF facility in Guntur city.

The world's oldest mother, Bousada de Lara, was sixty-six years old when she gave birth to Christian and Pau, her twin boys, in December 2006.

To receive reproductive therapy at a Los Angeles clinic and pay £30,000, De Lara acknowledged lying about her age. Each of the prematurely delivered babies weighed 3.5 pounds.

IVF is normally provided by the NHS for women under 43, but some private clinics also accept ladies above 43.

Natural conception is prevented by menopause; however, IVF can still be carried out with donor or frozen eggs.
