Reddit users have made inferences and teases about this sign, creating curiosity about its true meaning.

One user explained that national speed limits depend on the type of car you are driving. For example, if you drive a BMW, the speed limit is 100mph and you don't need to use turn signals.

Another person said that near where he lives there is a road with this sign, and if you go over 30mph, it can only indicate that you are completely out of control or suicidal.

What does this road sign actually mean?

According to the RAC website, the sign indicates that the national speed limit applies on the upcoming stretch of road.

It replaces any speed limit signs you previously had to obey, such as when passing through a construction zone.

The website also emphasizes that even when national speed limits apply, it is not always safe to drive at those speeds, so use common sense to recognize this.

It's best to drive at the national speed limit or at the speed of other vehicles on the road.

What is the national speed limit?

This depends on the type of road you are traveling on and the type of vehicle you are using.

In urban areas with street lights, the speed limit is 30mph or varied if otherwise specified.

On one-way roads, cars are limited to 60mph and 50mph for trucks and larger vehicles, as well as when you are towing a vehicle.

On motorways and dual carriageways, the speed limit is 70mph but only 60mph for goods vehicles or cars pulling trailers or caravans.
