A furious man crashed his new car into a dealership after being denied a refund, causing significant storefront damage.
In a shocking incident in Sandy, Utah, a man drove his car into a dealership after the dealership denied him a refund for a recently purchased vehicle.
This event has drawn attention and highlights the frustrations some customers face when dealing with car sales.
The man bought a used Subaru Outback.
Michael Lee Murray, a 35-year-old man, bought a used Subaru Outback from Tim Dahle Mazda Southtowne.
He paid $4,000 for the car on December 9. Initially, Murray was excited about his new purchase.
However, his joy quickly turned to disappointment when he discovered serious mechanical problems with the vehicle.
After realizing that the car had significant issues, Murray decided to return it to the dealership.
He believed he had bought a “lemon,” a term used for defective cars.
Murray approached the dealership, hoping to get his money back.
Murray asked for a refund but was quickly denied.
When Murray asked for a refund, the dealership’s management told him that they sold the Subaru “as is.”
This means that the dealership sold the car without any guarantees or promises about its condition.
Tyler Slade, the platform manager, explained to Murray that the vehicle needed repairs and was not in perfect condition.
Slade stated that they had been clear about the car’s issues before the sale.
“We were very clear about the fact that this car is not retail,” he said. “It’s gonna need more inspecting and some work.”
“We’re like, ‘Woah, we don’t need to do that.’ Sit down, we can figure this out, we can find a solution,” Slade said.
Despite this explanation, Murray was furious. He felt that the dealership had misled him about the car’s condition.
In a moment of anger, he threatened to drive through the dealership’s front door if they did not accept the return.
The staff tried to calm him down, suggesting they could find a solution together.
The angry man drove his car into the dealership’s entrance.
Later that day, around 4 PM, Murray acted on his threat.
In a fit of rage, he drove his Subaru directly into the dealership’s glass doors.
A video of the incident showed him crashing through the entrance and damaging a desk inside.
As he exited the car, he shouted, “I told you motherf***ers! I told you!”
The crash caused significant damage to the dealership.
The front doors were completely destroyed, and glass was scattered everywhere.
The vehicle was now entirely inside the building, and some parts of the door had even hit another car in the showroom, causing further damage.
Murray was arrested following the destructive incident.
Fortunately, no one was injured during this chaotic event.
However, the dealership estimated the damage at around $10,000.
Police were called to the scene, and Murray was arrested.
He was charged with several offenses, including criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
After spending some time in jail, he spoke to the media about the incident.
The police affidavit noted: “Murray’s vehicle was completely inside the building.
The front doors were now inside the building, there was glass shattered all around where Murray’s vehicle was and some pieces of the door and door frame had hit another vehicle that was in the showroom, causing damage to the side of that vehicle as well.”
Murray explained that his anger over losing his money pushed him to his breaking point.
“I was just really angry, upset about my money,” he said.
He admitted that he “blacked out” for a moment, which led him to take such drastic action.
