Social media footage of a Yankees fan trying to steal a ball from a Dodgers player has outraged viewers
A recent incident during the World Series has sparked outrage among baseball fans.
Footage shows a New York Yankees fan attempting to steal a baseball from Los Angeles Dodgers player Mookie Betts. The shocking moment has left many viewers stunned.
Yankee’s fan trying to steal ball from Dodger’s player
In an unexpected turn of events, a Yankees supporter was seen grabbing Betts’ glove. The Dodgers player had leaped at the wall to catch a ball heading his way. As he made the catch, the fan opened Betts’ glove and snatched the baseball.
The drama unfolded in what many consider one of the craziest moments in World Series history. Betts, clearly shocked by the fan’s actions, addressed the media after the game.
“When it comes to the person in play, it doesn’t matter,” Betts said. “We lost. It’s irrelevant. I’m fine. He’s fine. Everything’s cool. We lost the game, and that’s what I’m focused on. We got to turn the page and get ready for tomorrow.”
Fan identified after attempting to steal ball from dodgers player
The fan was later identified as 38-year-old Austin Capobianco, a Yankees season ticket holder from Connecticut. ESPN reported that Capobianco’s friend, John Peter, played a role in the incident. Peter grabbed Betts’ non-glove hand to help Capobianco secure the baseball.
Capobianco spoke to ESPN after the match, acknowledging their actions. “We always joke about the ball in our area,” he said. “We’re not going to go out of our way to attack. If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up.”
He added, “Someone defends, someone knocks the ball. We talk about it. We’re willing to do this.”

Footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media.
In the comments section, many viewers expressed their shock about the incident. Another user expressed their disappointment bout fan behavior at sporting events.
One person said: Correction. He did steal the ball out of his glove! And the friend holding the wrist….both should be banned from MLB games!!
A second wrote: Is he actually mentally unstable, no one would do this if he was stable, I’m glad he got kicked out and the other guy too
While a third commented: Is he actually mentally unstable, no one would do this if he was stable, I’m glad he got kicked out and the other guy too
Another added: That was horrible. I don’t care who the team is or the player. That was so wrong. I can’t believe people are laughing about it.
Someone else said: I look just like this opening a bag of chips at 3am after a night out. When you want it, you’re going to get it.
ESPN journalist Kevin Negandhi commented, “The fact that these two Yankee fans acted like they didn’t do anything wrong… one held Mookie’s glove, and the other grabbed Mookie’s hand and wouldn’t let go. If this was done in Philly, social media would’ve melted down.”
The incident has reignited discussions about fan behavior at sporting events. While some view it as a harmless joke, others see it as a blatant violation of sportsmanship.
