Tourist sleeps unaware of reptilian neighbor
A terrifying incident unfolded on the Mexican coast, capturing the moment a camper unknowingly shared his tent with a dangerous crocodile.
Video footage depicts the sleeping tourist cozied up inside his brightly colored tent, completely oblivious to the menacing predator mere inches away.
A video shared on social media captured the shocking moment of a camper taking a nap next to a crocodile.
The uninvited visitor, a crocodile, settled in for the night right beside the camper. The cameraperson claims the reptile likely remained there throughout the entire night, nestled amongst burnt-out campfire debris and discarded trash.
Some expressed concern about habitat destruction pushing crocodiles into closer proximity with humans.
Others questioned the cameraperson's motives, wondering if they were filming a prank. A different theory suggested the crocodile might be deceased.
One person said: Yes, because the first thing I would do if I saw someone in a dangerous situation is to take a video and post it on social media rather than try to extract the dangerous creature.
A second wrote: Idiot people, got no brains nor common.sense.
While a third commented: That ain't even a big one. He ain't going to take on adult.
Someone else said: He just wanted to Say "Hi, welcome to my land human"
Thankfully, the situation did not escalate into an attack. The campers were fortunate to escape unharmed.
Local warnings about the dangers of crocodiles, as many accidents resulting in deaths have occurred
The crocodile's presence on the beach in Boca de Iguanas, west of Mexico City, is attributed to the easy access to food and waste left behind by campers.
Authorities advise tourists to properly dispose of food scraps away from bodies of water to avoid attracting dangerous wildlife.
This incident comes on the heels of separate attacks on Mexico's Pacific Coast that left a 76-year-old Belgian tourist dead and a 52-year-old American woman severely injured.
Both victims were bitten in the legs by an unidentified animal. The attacks occurred in the southern state of Guerrero.
