A TikToker recently called out Chick-fil-A after witnessing construction workers at one of its locations on a Sunday.

Emily (@momtotheharrisonbrothers) posted a video showing workers actively renovating the restaurant, sparking discussions online.

Chick-fil-A is well-known for closing its restaurants on Sundays in alignment with its founder’s Christian values.

Why does Chick-fil-A close on sundays?

The company’s founder, S. Truett Cathy, implemented the policy to allow employees a day for rest and worship.

This tradition dates back to Chick-fil-A’s inception in 1946 and remains a core aspect of the company’s identity.

According to the Chick-fil-A website, Sunday closures offer employees a chance to relax and spend time with loved ones.

Emily’s reaction to the construction work

While sitting in her car, Emily recorded workers renovating the restaurant and expressed her surprise.

“So, Chick-fil-A doesn’t let their team members work Sundays, but construction workers can?” she questioned in her video.

In the text overlay, Emily described the situation as “yucky” and called it hypocritical.

Some viewers agreed, calling the situation inconsistent with Chick-fil-A’s values.

While, others defended the company, pointing out that Chick-fil-A likely doesn’t control the construction schedule.

One person said: Right!! Saw that too!! Think they would pick other companies that have the same benefits!!

A second wrote: it is incredibly more efficient to do it when the restaurant is closed!

While a third commented: They actually do make their staff come in on some Sundays lol they hold trainings on those days

Another added: They have their business seperate from the construction company. Welcome to freedome cupcake, you want some unrelated business you aren’t contracted with deciding your day for you… garbage.

Fast-food chains often have limited involvement in construction schedules.

According to PROCORE, companies typically manage the vision and approval of building plans, while contractors handle the work.

Chick-fil-A locations undergo full-scale renovations every 30 years, requiring significant updates both inside and out.

The timeline for construction is usually dictated by the hired third-party construction firms.

After the video gained traction, Emily explained that her post was intended as a lighthearted joke.

In a statement to the Daily Dot, she said, “We all know Chick-fil-A is delicious, so we’ll be back!”

While Chick-fil-A’s Sunday closures reflect its values, the construction work likely fell outside its control.

The incident highlights how quickly assumptions can go viral and spark debates, even when rooted in misunderstandings.
