Accoring to reort, Disney’s ‘Snow White’ remake on pace to lose $115 million amid Rachel Zegler controversy.
Snow White remake struggles at the box office
Disney’s live-action *Snow White* remake is on track to lose approximately $115 million. The film has faced intense backlash, largely due to star Rachel Zegler’s controversial remarks.
Since its March 21 release, the film has earned just $143.1 million worldwide. In its second weekend, domestic earnings dropped by 66%, bringing in only $14.2 million.
Revenue projections fall short of production costs
Industry experts predict the film will generate about $295 million in total revenue. This includes:
– $101 million from global theatrical rentals
– $62 million from home entertainment sales
– $130 million from streaming and television rights
– $2 million from merchandise sales
However, the film’s total cost reached $410 million. Production alone cost $270 million, inflated by industry strikes and a fire on set in the UK. Marketing, residual payments, and other expenses added another $140 million.
Rachel Zegler’s controversies fuel backlash
Zegler has been at the center of the controversy surrounding “Snow Whit”. Many criticized Disney’s casting choice, arguing she didn’t fit the classic “fairest of them all” image.
Her political statements also sparked outrage. In November, she posted on X:
– “F–k Donald Trump”
– “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.”
Three months earlier, she commented on the Israel-Gaza conflict, writing: “and always remember, free palestine.” This statement reportedly upset her *Snow White* co-star Gal Gadot, who served in the Israeli Defense Forces.
On social media, many viewers also criticized Rachel Zegler, calling her narcissistic after Snow White faced heavy losses and record-low box office revenue.
One person said: Yes, she is insufferable, and certainly holds some responsibility, but it’s not all her fault. We cannot ,and should not put all the blame on her.
A second wrote: Hard to imagine anyone doing more damage to themselves quicker than Zegler has managed. It’s even harder to imagine any more leading roles, or perhaps ANY roles, coming her way.
While a third commented: She MUST have a very Rich and Powerful Hollywood SUGAR DaDdy. How else can she afford ALL these wily whims and shenanigans?
Another added: Maybe someone else (?) will buy out Disney or start a new studio to make wholesome movies again … Just my … “wish upon a star” …
Someone else said: It was a flop as soon as Disney announced it was doing a retarded joke of a remake. She didn’t help matters any either.
Zegler’s criticism of the original Snow White
During a promotional interview, Zegler criticized the 1937 animated classic. She described its love story as outdated, saying:
– “There’s a big focus on her love story with the guy who literally stalks her. Weird, weird.”
Her remarks led to further backlash, prompting her to later call playing Snow White “the honor of a lifetime.”
## Snow White expected to perform worse than other Disney remakes
Compared to other recent live-action Disney films, *Snow White* is underperforming. The Little Mermaid grossed $569.6 million worldwide, while Dumbo earned $353 million. However, both were considered disappointments when compared to *The Lion King* ($1.5 billion) and *Aladdin* ($1 billion).
Snow White now faces the possibility of becoming one of Disney’s biggest live-action flops.
