The family of a doctor has filed a lawsuit against Disney World restaurant after she died from a severe allergic reaction during her visit.
The doctor visited a Disney World restaurant with her family
On October 5, 2023, Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan, a physician from New York, visited Disney Springs at Disney World in Florida with her husband, Jeffrey J. Piccolo, and his mother.
The group dined at the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, where the doctor tragically passed away later that evening due to a severe allergic reaction.
They repeatedly mentioned her severe food allergies
According to the lawsuit filed by Piccolo on February 22, 2024, Dr. Tangsuan and her husband repeatedly informed the server about her severe food allergies.
They also inquired whether the menu items were allergen-free.
However, the server claimed that they would make their food as the family ordered.
The doctor died after eating food at Disney World restaurant
After finishing their meal around 8 PM, Dr. Tangsuan stayed behind at Disney Springs to do some shopping, while Piccolo returned to their hotel.
At approximately 8:45 PM, the doctor began experiencing difficulties breathing and collapsed in a nearby restaurant.
Based on reports, she suffered from a severe acute allergic reaction.
Bystanders called 911, and Dr. Tangsuan used her EpiPen in an attempt to stop the reaction.
Unfortunately, she was ultimately taken to the hospital, where she passed away.
Piccolo was unaware of the incident when he called his wife’s phone. A bystander informed him about the medical emergency.
By the time Piccolo reached the hospital, his wife had already passed away.
The autopsy report revealed that Dr. Tangsuan had elevated levels of dairy and nuts in her system.
Therefore, her manner of death was ruled an accident.
However, the significance of these test results was noted as not yet established.
Dr. Tangsuan’s husband accused the restaurant of negligence
In the lawsuit, Piccolo has accused Disney World and the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant of negligence.
He claimed that they failed to properly accommodate Dr. Tangsuan’s severe food allergies, despite their stated commitment to prioritizing the safety of guests with allergies.
The lawsuit seeks more than $50,000 in damages, and the defendants’ lawyers have reportedly been in contact with the plaintiffs.
Disney World removes beloved character after 50 years
Recently, Disney World has decided to rename a beloved character of the past 50 years named “Liver Lips McGrowl”.
The change is due to concerns that the original name may be seen as insensitive.
The term “liver-lipped” has been associated with excessive alcohol consumption and its impact on the liver.
Additionally, the term has been used in offensive racial stereotypes related to prominent lips.
To remove any potentially offensive language, Disney World has renamed the character to “Romeo McGrowl”.
The Country Bear Jamboree attraction featuring the character will also have a new program.
The bears will perform Disney songs in various country music genres like bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, and rockabilly. This decision has received mixed reactions on social media.
Some fans expressed nostalgia for the original character, while others felt the change was necessary.
However, some also suggested the move may be more about Disney’s public image rather than truly addressing concerns about offending alcoholics.
