In a public event, Trump sparked debate after responding to ‘What is a woman?’ while struggling to answer this question to a reporter.
Trump gives a direct answer to defining a woman
At a public event on March 28, a reporter asked Donald Trump to define what a woman is.
The question followed his recent executive order banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports.
A reporter asked Trump: “Mr President… since Democrats seem to struggle answering this question… what is a woman and why is it important that we understand the difference between men and women?”
Trump appeared eager to respond: “It’s sort of easy to answer for me”.
” It’s sort of easy to answer for me, because a woman is somebody that can have a baby under certain circumstances… a woman is a person who is much smarter than a man I’ve always found.” He added.
Trump added. : “A woman is a person who doesn’t give a man even a chance of success and a woman is a person that in many cases has been treated very badly.’
Trump also criticizes transgender athletes in women’s sports
During the interview, Trump continued by addressing transgender athletes in women’s sports.
He called it “ridiculous and very unfair to women.” He claimed that allowing men to compete in women’s sports is a “94 percent issue,” implying strong public opposition.
He said: “What happens with this crazy issue of men being able to play in women’s sport is just ridiculous and very unfair to women and very demeaning to women, that’s got to be about a 94 percent issue.”
Additionally, the 47th president of the U.S. also criticized Democratic lawmakers for supporting transgender participation in women’s sports
“I watched Democrat congressmen fighting for the fact that men should be allowed to compete in women’s sports,” he said. “I hope they keep that going because they’ll never win an election.”
Previously, Trump signs executie order banning transgender women from competing
Last month, Trump signed an executive order prohibiting transgender women from competing in women’s sports.
He declared that “the war on women’s sports is over.” He also stated that his administration “will not stand by and watch men beat and batter female athletes.”
Trump’s policies on transgender rights have faced legal challenges. A second federal judge recently blocked his ban on transgender military service.
Judge Benjamin Settle ruled that the policy was “plainly discriminatory.”
Settle stated that the government provided “no evidence” showing transgender service members harmed military readiness or cohesion.
Earlier this month, Judge Ana Reyes also blocked the order.
Additionlly, She ruled that the ban violated equal protection laws and discriminated based on transgender status and sex.
Reyes described the policy as “soaked in animus” and “unabashedly demeaning.” She noted that thousands of transgender service members had sacrificed for their country, only to face discrimination through the ban.
