An astonishing incident unfolded when a 95-year-old woman, previously declared deceased, suddenly came back to life six days after her supposed passing.
Li Xiufeng, an elderly grandmother from Guangxi Province in China, had suffered a head injury after tripping at her home.
A concerned neighbor discovered her lying motionless in bed and, despite her body still being warm, concluded that she had peacefully passed away in her sleep, as all attempts to wake her up were in vain.
Neighbour Chen Qingwang, along with his son, made arrangements for Mrs. Xiufeng's funeral, as she lived alone.
They kept the coffin in the house for several days to allow friends and relatives to pay their respects.
However, to their astonishment, the day before the scheduled burial, they found the coffin empty and the body missing. They immediately sought help from the neighbors, forming a search party to locate the missing body.
The search for Liu Xiufeng's body after people spotted her body suddenly disappeared from the coffin.
After many attempts to find the elderly woman's body, people were left terrified after discovering Mrs. Xiufeng sitting on a stool, fully alive and well, cooking a meal.
She explained that she had simply been sleeping for a long time and, upon waking up, felt incredibly hungry and decided to prepare some food. She had to push the lid of the coffin for an extended period to climb out.
The local county hospital later offered a possible explanation for this extraordinary event.
They suggested that Mrs. Xiufeng had experienced an "artificial death," during which a person shows no signs of breath, but their body remains warm.
The hospital attributed her survival to the local tradition of keeping the coffin in the house for several days before burial.
Although Mrs. Xiufeng's unexpected return to life brought relief to her family and neighbors, it also left her with nothing.
