Elon Musk drew attention and sparked mixed reactions after donning two different hats during a White House meeting with Donald Trump.
Elon Musk wears two Trump hats during White House cabinet farewell
Elon Musk made headlines with an unusual fashion statement during a recent White House cabinet meeting under Donald Trump’s second-term administration.
The billionaire wore two Trump hats at once, layering a red “Gulf of America” cap over a black MAGA hat.
Trump, clearly amused, applauded Musk’s bold look and joked, “Elon, I love the double hat.” Musk responded with his trademark humor, saying, ‘Well Mr President, you know they say I wear a lot of hats, and as you can see, it’s true. Even my hat has a hat.’
The moment drew laughter from Cabinet members, who were also wearing variations of the Gulf of America caps.
The quirky attire coincided with Musk’s farewell appearance as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump praised Musk during the two-hour meeting and noted his influence in driving key initiatives within the department.
Musk’s Tenure at DOGE was Marked by unconventional style and big promises
Throughout his time in the West Wing, Musk stood out with his non-traditional wardrobe, often pairing T-shirts with Trump hats and suit jackets.
In March, he wore a red cap that read “Trump Was Right About Everything!” during a formal cabinet discussion. In February, he appeared in a black MAGA hat and a shirt that read “Tech Support,” again breaking standard dress norms.
Despite criticism, Trump defended Musk’s approach, calling him unique and effective at getting results in unconventional ways.
At the meeting, Musk declared it had been “an honor to work with your incredible Cabinet” and thanked all who supported DOGE.
He claimed the department had saved the government $160 billion through operational cuts and staff reductions in just 100 days.
Although this fell short of the initial $1 trillion savings goal, Musk called the results a “tremendous accomplishment.”
‘As everyone has said, it’s more than has been accomplished in any administration before. Ever,’ Musk said.
‘So this portends very well for what happens, for the rest of the administration.’
He echoed Trump’s statements at a recent rally, insisting this administration had done more than any in U.S. history. Cabinet members credited Musk with driving speed and innovation in government operations during his limited-term role.
His efforts, while polarizing, left a significant mark on the Trump administration’s early second-term narrative.
Trump officials say Musk is stepping back, but not leaving government work
Trump’s Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, confirmed Musk is no longer working from the White House daily. She said, “He’s not out of it altogether,” adding that their communications now happen over the phone.
Wiles emphasized that Musk remains involved in DOGE operations through his staff and strategic direction.
“His people are definitely not stepping away,” she said, noting that his influence will continue behind the scenes.
While no longer physically present, Musk’s advisory role is expected to remain strong throughout Trump’s term. Musk’s government role was limited by his special government employee designation, allowing only part-time federal involvement.
This status sparked controversy during tense discussions on budget cuts and intelligence access, particularly around classified China briefings.
Trump had reportedly once blocked Musk from a top-level China meeting due to growing concerns about his influence.
Despite those tensions, the double hat appearance suggests a public reconciliation between Trump and Musk.
Both men appear to be back on friendly terms, aligning around shared goals and political optics.
