A food delivery driver refused to deliver a customer’s order over an $8 tip dispute.

The incident, which occurred in Smithtown, New York, was captured on a Ring doorbell camera.

Driver was visibly upset, believing the tip was too low for the distance she had driven.

A video showed the driver ringing the doorbell, asking the residents to come outside to discuss the tip.

She expressed frustration, stating the customer should have tipped more given the long distance she traveled.

Driver claimed to have driven 40 minutes from Commack to deliver the food.

She added: ‘I got it to you early and so I don’t think you realize where you ordered from’.

Dispute over the drive time

The customer, confused by the driver’s claim, asked how far she had driven.

The driver insisted the trip took 40 minutes and covered over 12 miles.

However, according to Google Maps, Commack is only five to seven miles from Smithtown, typically a 10 to 15-minute drive.

‘It’s not. You need to try to drive it,’ she says. ‘I just drove it and it is 40 minutes. It is 12 and a half miles’

The two continue going back and forth before the driver finally tells the customer her problem.

‘I feel that is still very far, so you need to adjust your tip to make it right,’ she declares. ‘You gave an 8$ tip.’

The shocked customer quickly retorted : ‘What the hell are you looking for?!’

Despite the customer pointing out that the drive should take no more than 15 minutes, the driver remained adamant that her trip was longer.

She demanded the customer adjust the tip to reflect the distance she claimed to have driven.

The driver then revealed her frustration over the $8 tip, asking for more.

She stormed off with the food, stating that she would return it rather than complete the delivery.

Social media reaction

Several people criticized the driver.

In the comment selection, many said that eight dollars is a great tip . While, another adding that as a DoorDash driver, eight dollars is solid, expressing disbelief that she took the food back.

One person said: “I need to speak to the manager of the home!”

A second wrote: I love his reaction, ” what the hell are you looking for?” LMAO

While a third commented: Wow. The level of entitlement in this video is astounding.

DoorDash responded to the incident

DoorDash, in a statement to DailyMail.com, stated they could not confirm if the driver was employed by them.

They reiterated their zero-tolerance policy, stressing that any inappropriate behavior would result in deactivation from the platform.

The company emphasized that the safety of their community is a top priority.

‘We take the safety of our community extremely seriously, and such inappropriate behavior is never tolerated on the DoorDash platform,’ they said in the statement. ‘Any behavior that violates this zero tolerance policy is grounds for deactivation.’

This unusual incident sparked discussions about tipping, delivery distances, and customer service expectations.

Both parties expressed dissatisfaction, leaving the delivery incomplete and the food undelivered.
