Anam’s decision to marry the rice cooker stemmed from a conversation with his friends.

They were discussing what qualities an ideal bride should have. Anam joked, saying a bride should be “fair, strong, obedient, and quiet.”

“I was holding a rice cooker during this conversation,” Anam said. “And it seemed just the right choice for the wife I wanted.”

The following day, he went ahead with the wedding.

The ceremony was modest, with only a few close friends present. Anam dressed the rice cooker in a sheer white veil, and a priest, in on the joke, officiated the marriage.

Photos of Anam lovingly holding and kissing the appliance quickly went viral.

The end of the marriage

Four days later, Anam divorced the rice cooker. In a series of viral Facebook posts, he explained his reasons for ending the marriage.

“This heavy and round decision had to be taken,” he wrote. He humorously added, “I couldn’t handle the pressure, and the cooker only cooked rice efficiently, not vegetables.”
