Jessie Cave, best known as Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter series, reveals emotional toll of joining OnlyFans to survive financially.
Former Harry Potter actress explains why she turned to OnlyFans to deal with mounting financial pressure
Earlier this year, Jessie Cave, who played Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter franchise, joined OnlyFans with an unusual goal.
Cave launched her page in March, revealing her mission was not adult content, but a niche focus on haircare and styling videos.
She described her content as “hair stuff”, where she brushes and styles her hair on camera, appealing to a unique online audience.
Her reason? She hoped to pay off debt, repair her home, and regain control of her finances after years of industry struggles.
In her announcement, posted to her Substack, she wrote: “One year. I’ll try for one year. My aim? To get the house safe, cover the arsenic/lead wallpaper, build a new roof etc.
She added: “My aim? To get out of debt. My aim? To empower myself?”
Proving those in the past who misjudged me wrong—I’m not so sweet. Investing time in something I never did before: self-love
Jessie Cave shares shame over OnlyFans messages
Despite her intentions, Cave says the platform experience has become deeply uncomfortable, with rising personal shame and emotional exhaustion.
In a recent Substack update, she opened up about the reality of life on the platform and the harassment she now faces.
“It’s gotten a little nasty. I feel a little gross, a little scared. I am receiving too many lurid messages and don’t like being sent unsolicited d***s.
She emphasized that she does not share sexual content, but is bombarded with requests just seconds after setting boundaries.
“No matter how many times I say I am not doing sexual content, I get a message within two seconds asking to see cm in my hair or if I would just please f**ing consider full frontal.”
Actress says her OnlyFans work is a reflection of failure
Cave admitted her decision reflects a larger personal struggle — a feeling of failure after nearly two decades in the arts.
“It’s proof of my failure to make, or keep, money as an actress and writer. I’ve got nothing to show for 18 years.”
She noted that she’s rented for 18 years, funded her own projects, and is left with no financial stability despite her efforts.
Addittionally, Jessie Cave shares how the platform has affected her daily routine and mental health.
The experience has taken a toll on her mental health, time, and relationship with herself and her family.
“I dread the evenings because I know I have to message rather than zone out watching tv.
She added that she’s stopped reading because she feels guilty not using every moment to create content or retain subscribers.
“I’ve stopped reading because I feel like it’s not using my time efficiently: any spare moment when I’m not with the kids I should be making money and keeping my fans subscribed.
“I’m on a content treadmill and I can’t get off, send help.”
